Melbourne’s one and only Emelyne picks up the next Mod Hyp mix series for a two hour excursion of tracks you have and definitely have not heard before - Emelyne is a true selector, her musical palette is vast, unassuming and inspiring. This mix captures her love of dub, dub techno and that original UK dubstep sound we all give the nod to this side of the globe* Emelyne has appeared on Modern Hypnosis line ups since day one and her committed involvement in Melbourne’s music community is widely well received. Pugilist back at it with this rocketing mix of modern club stuff of sorts n that. Like kind of bassy tech stuff ya know? Post-dubstep leaning more towards UK deep techno though, but with elements of other popular dance music genres like dnb and jungle, designed mainly to be listened to in a club / music festival / sound system environment kind of thing. Hard to explain but best to just go along to such events and check it out coz it gets real vibey once you get into it.

The long awaited second instalment of our 4 part VA series.

Opening track ‘Dub Free pt.3 (Rose line mix)’ is a masterfully produced and mixed dub techno groove by Hiss Is Bliss. With skills at this level, there’s clearly more to come from this French artist.

On the flip, USA born Bukkha, digs into the deep dub techno trenches with Dub Envelope. Situated at 115bpm, a tempo with much possibility, Bukkha hits the nail on the head with ease and exposes a different side to his usual output.

Closing out this carefully curated 3 track 12” - Bristol talent Somah signs off with a dreamy dub garage track titled Knot Up.

Melbourne's Pugilist opens the gates with 'Flip Trix.' It's a dub-drenched, broken techno hybrid with earth-shattering low-end throughout. This lengthy 130bpm track, with foggy breaks and frosty pads, smartly concludes on a 4x4 beat to ensure a smooth exit. 'Flip Trix' is certainly a future percy for all.

A longtime feature of Eora/Sydney’s music scene, Producer and DJ, Gilsun provides us with our next Modern Hypnosis podcast and shows his experience in this well crafted blend of dubby techno and UK bass styles.  

Also known via his techno alias Oscar Mike, and one half of reggae/dancehall act Iron Gate Sound, Gilsun productions have been released on Extra Spicy and his own label Iron Gate Records. Having supported the likes of Peverelist, Kode 9, Deadbeat and Batu, Gilsun draws inspiration from that deep UK bass sound.

Charms is a Naarm-based DJ and radio host who has recently relocated from Manchester, UK. Drawing strong influence from her Jamaican heritage, she is passionate about soundsystem culture and her selections often span heavily across the soundsystem diaspora. Under the alias of Mama Char, in 2022 she started a project called Galdem Rejoice which aims to uplift, support and raise the profile of women in soundsystem culture via events, workshops and a monthly mix series. For all things roots, reggae, lovers and dub, you can listen to The Rejoice Show with Mama Char bi-monthly on Reform Radio.

For this mix expect easy dub -inspired selections featuring recent releases intertwined with some classics.

We invite Deutan for an excursion into the abyss for the next Modern Hypnosis Podcast. 

A disciple of Ōtautahi’s pre earthquake drum&bass/jungle scene. 
Deutan’s then moniker ‘Jumbo’ started buying records at 15. 
Eventually playing various outdoor, club and soundsystem nights. 
Later including Subtle’s legendary formative dubstep parties.

Moving forward, after living in Berlin and two stints in Melbourne see’s him leaning more into leftism-techno, electro, house and bass offshoots. 
Drawing from experiences, inspiration and a constant search for deeper cuts allows his sets to weave through emotion whilst pushing narrative.

The mysterious French producer maintains a refreshing low profile, allowing the music to do the heavy lifting. They utilise analog synths, a Redson Echo EC 25, a Korg Signal Sd-400, and a DIY spring reverb crafted by the infamous ‘JB,’ while also running certain stems to tape to create immaculate sound scapes with low-end frequencies primed for sound systems.
