Big Wave was written by Madison Lucas of Modern Moxie around the beginning of the COVID pandemic. An anger fueled rip roaring ride through all the emotions associated with political, biological and intellectual fear. Weeping Willow is a song about missing childhood and the deep connection to nature that can be lost with youth. A yearning for time spent climbing trees and being disconnected from the terror and turmoil of the outside world. Madison's younger brother was diagnosed with MS at only 23. This song was written during a traumatic time when he had an extreme flare up after an experimental treatment and was in the hospital. Horizon is a song about dealing with frustration and anger towards rich people that don't care about the environment. Our human stampede towards living inside our phones on a blazing hot, unlivable earth. An honest questioning of how it's possible to look at all the beauty of nature and still pollute it and care only about climbing financial ladders and acquiring as many things as humanly possible. A twinkly, simple song about shedding reliance on physical goods, money and waking up.

Horizon

Hopelessly Alive is a creepy mantra of a song written about attempting to live in the moment and escape the crippling anxiety of life's impending doom. A little off, a little depressed, very real. All humans are filled with the bright light of consciousness and this song is an attempt to bring attention to what is hidden inside each of us if we dig deep enough.

This short prelude was originally recorded as backing vocals for the title track, Gutter Honey. Acapella vocals by Madison Lucas, Phil Pucci, and Charlie Weeks. The band loved the short bit so much they repurposed it as an intro to the final title track of the EP.

Gutter Honey is a song about filtering through life's sludge and finding beautiful things. Written in lockdown while watching too many episodes of Twin Peaks.

"Live a Fantasy" is a lush, indie rock song about connecting with your inner child and freeing them from all the limitations and trauma experienced along the path of growing up. Inside each of us is a child with an endless supply of creativity and heart. As we grow up, we lose our sense of wonder and imagination, though it still resides beneath layers upon layers of subconscious beliefs. My generation was fed the idea of "The American Dream" that was always a lie from beginning to end. Coming to terms with this revelation as you age is a harsh push into a reality we didn't ask for, but have to deal with. "Live a Fantasy" lives out this internal conversation through grungy guitar tones and lyrical impossibilities, provoking the listener to find their true identities and leave behind any roles they may be filling against their own internal will.

"Churning" is a song written about deep personal reflection and spirituality. The song originated as channeled poetry that was written during a fleeting moment of clarity after a deep, morning meditation by the lead singer/songwriter. Supported by multi-national ad campaign and creative social media strategy created by the band titled "Moxie TV". Music video out on release day.

"Don't Look at Me", best described as an anti-Botox indie rock anthem, courageously confronts the pressures faced by women in both society and the music industry. "Don't Look at Me" unveils the journey of self-discovery and resilience amidst the unyielding expectations of youth and beauty along with the pressures to work a "normal job".  A defiant proclamation against the superficial standards. A rallying cry for authenticity in an industry and society obsessed with image over substance and financial security over a creatively expressive life.
