Malik ka Ambar - Cosmopolitanism in the Deccan through Malik Ambar's Eyes delves into the vibrant cultural and political milieu of the Deccan during the early modern period. The Deccan's art, innovation, and emergence as a melting pot of different cultures is looked at through the lens or rather the involvement of Malik Ambar into positions of power. Malik Ambar was a visionary Ethiopian military leader and statesman and by looking at his life and involvement in the courts, I shall explore how Ambar, an Ethiopian-born slave arose to positions of power, prominence, and patronage, and how his mobility and social transgression posed a challenge to Jahangir, resulting in a tiff between the two!

The Early Modern Period (16th century onwards) in the Deccan (South India) regions is most interesting In understanding the history of Indian arts, its place and role, in shaping the society, culture and politics we have inherited.
