Following the seismic launch of Backspin with Regal’s Avalanche, the label now turns to one of techno’s most respected pioneers: Cristian Varela. With the Supraconscience EP, Varela delivers a masterclass in groove-driven intensity, further defining Backspin’s mission to resurrect and reimagine the pulse of early 2000s techno.

The EP plays like a coded message from another dimension. With uncompromising tribal rhythms, the tracks draw from the same well as the classic vinyl cuts that shaped Backspin’s sonic ethos: groovy, loop-driven, bass-heavy and packed with percussive punch. J0T4 kicks off with punchy low-end pressure and epic synth melodies, while J0T5 goes deeper, layering syncopated trippy percussion with eerie atmospheres. Next up is Exegon, a tightly wound, loop-heavy storm of shuffled rhythms and distorted stabs – hypnotic, functional and built for peak-time intensity with its melancholic hook. Closing track J0T7 brings a warped, rolling energy that ties the EP together in true Hardgroove spirit.

As Backspin gathers momentum, Supraconscience proves that this isn’t just about nostalgia. It's about pushing the timeless power of groove into new realms, led by legends like Cristian Varela who helped write the blueprint in the first place.

Berlin's Scheermann debuts on Mutual Rytm with deeply personal EP, ‘Viciosa’.

Scheermann is at the heart of the Berlin underground as a DJ/producer, but also working behind the scenes at the Intakt Berlin vinyl pressing plant, where he first met Mutual Rytm founder SHDW. As a resident of the Lorem Ipsum party series, he delivers cultured and compelling grooves, and is also an active member of the Wesertekk collective - supporting and pushing club culture to the forefront in more rural areas. His music comes from a deeply personal place, never chasing hype or headlines, and is usually found at home on his own imprint, SAMMLER. This new EP marks his first appearance away from the label as he unveils a collection of records crafted over five years, with each track representing different moments in his life.

‘Viciosa’ kicks off with paranoid vocals panning about as swinging, warehouse-ready drums pound heavily below. The gritty synth craft adds plenty of texture as filters build the vibe. ‘Placid Sin’ is even more intense with unresolved synths tripping you in a loopy state while coarse percussion and cantering drums march on. ‘Don't Care’ is a rave- ready cut that injects your soul with urgent synth energy over more minimal and moody drums. ‘Kano’ brings a more elastic rhythm with dubby undercurrents and sleek sonar pulses infusing it with mystery, while ‘Reika’ is a nimble cut with icy hi hats and curious synth notes layering in late night suspense. First digital bonus 'Resoclap' is a heavyweight swinger with dark, groaning voices, before the second digital bonus ‘Mizu’ provides a speedy and supple workout for body and mind.

Supercharged drums hammer and shake in Björn Torwellen’s ‘The Overstayer Protocol’. The air hums with raw electric power, zapping through soft dub chords that tumble in the distance, oﬀering a glimpse of another world while its industrial groove rattles on. Title track ‘Codebreaker’ then sees the lasers ride pounding kick drums, building in intensity before dropping into head-warping, brutish and futuristic synth hits, closing out another EP of excellent Torwellen sound design for CLR. With a career spanning over two decades, Björn Torwellen is known for his discography on labels such as De-Konstrukt, Nachtstrom Schallplatten, nonlinear systems, and CLR. He also heads the German-based educational platform SINEE, oﬀering masterclasses, guides, feedback sessions, and more alongside artists such as Luigi Madonna, ANNẼ, and DEAS. 

Founded by influential techno lynchpin Chris Liebing in 1999 and reemerging in 2021 after a five-year hiatus, Create Learn Repeat (CLR) has hosted a range of artists like Shlomi Aber, Dubfire, Flug, Bjarki, DJ Dextro and more while also focusing on developing newer acts in the scene such as Risa Taniguchi, The Southern, and Klint.

Ondrej Blatny’s journey into electronic music began in the mid-1990s, when as a teenager he was captivated by The Prodigy, Underworld, Kraftwerk, the legendary Thunderdome compilations, and the 2Step TV show on VIVA Zwei. Techno and jungle quickly became his greatest inspirations.
By the age of 15, Ondrej had mastered Technics turntables and, under the alias DJ Shade, started performing in clubs across the Czech Republic. His sets, rooted in jungle and drum & bass, stood out for their raw, hard-edged energy infused with techno influences.
In 2006 he launched the project Gasmask71, shifting his focus to production. His intense tracks were released on labels such as BlackHoe, Mindsaw, Hard & Louder, Order in Kaos, and Blast Furnace Recordings, with standout releases like The Prophecy and Pipeline. Touring relentlessly across Czechia and abroad, he established himself on the drum & bass circuit and became part of collectives including Cyberfire and later Hoofbeats.
By 2014, Ondrej closed the Gasmask71 chapter and founded his new project Modetech, while continuing to perform with Hoofbeats. Although drum & bass remained central to his career for years, his love for techno never faded, and he occasionally appeared at events dedicated to the genre.
In 2024, he made a decisive move: stepping away from drum & bass entirely to dedicate himself exclusively to techno. Seeking independence and a fresh creative chapter, he drew inspiration from artists such as Surgeon, Industrialyzer, Richie Hawtin, The Advent, Regis, Luke Slater, and Rumenige—channelling their influence into hypnotic grooves and industrial textures.
By 2025, Modetech had released several EPs, and his distinctive industrial-driven sound is already beginning to attract a growing audience.
Modetech moves forward with clarity, determination, and a renewed passion for techno.
