The song is about counsel given from an elder advising their children and grand children to not get lost in the woods and to know how to find their way back to the village homestead. The woods in our modern context is the city and we're tasked with remembering where home is. By home I mean home, home. Ni songo gela is Venda for 'don't get lost or don't lose your way'.
