It seems we are having a week of debuting labels (and we like it!): Based in La Plata, Argentina, Modula Discos kicks off its activities with a pure Latino talent showcase. For the occasion, the team brings to life the compilation “Sortilegios”, a six-track VA featuring two rising artists, Cosmosolar and Basileus, whose past works have already been reviewed by us in previous premieres, and some new faces, Viktoria Jauregui, V.C.I., Laura Butallo, and Yerno Vil, who are appearing for the first time on our humble platform.

Focusing on analog-synth music, the imprint comes to enrich even more the boiling Argentinian underground music scene with special attention to the promotion of non-fluffy genres such as Indie Dance, Dark Disco, and Techno. A quick analysis of Modula’s first release’s content will make you realise there is no poppycock in the scope of its soundscape: It’s Disco-meets-darkness with shards of Latin influences setting the tone, babe.

Premiered here, Basileus’s “Dreams & Nights” is a frenzied and upbeat Made-In-Buenos-Aires cut loaded with a rock attitude and bouncing gait triggered, respectively, by its vibrating guitar riffs and sturdy bassline. The icing on the cake is the nervous acid layer wrapping things up. Peak-time stuff alert!

Artist bio: Viktoria Jauregui started as a DJ in 2017 in her hometown La Plata. She is co-creator and resident Dj of ''Etérea Cadencia'' and ''Technomic''. Her sound represents a fusion of Indie Dance and Melodic Techno, playing live with neat mixes and captivating audiences with compelling sounds. She is currently sealing her own tracks and starting to move them around the dance floor.

Founded in 2023, Modula is an electronic music label with a unique proposal in the Buenos Aires music scene. His sound aesthetics can be associated with indie dance, dark disco or melodic techno, but the fundamental essence of his music is the conditions of its production: the use of analog synthesizers, sequencers, rhythm machines and other hardware devices that they use the artists that belong to the label to produce and perform their music. That is where Module finds its identity. The sound exploration, the aesthetic search and the time dedicated to these artisan processes of composition and completion of the music differ from the current accelerated processes of electronic production and place the label's participants on the radar of artists who stand out for the use of these instrumentals and the curatorship of said music.

V.C.I. - Perfetta [Modula]

Welcome to "Noche" , the new release from Modula! Produced by Viktoria Jauregui, DJ and founding member of Modula, it presents four tracks of pure indie dance. Its dark and fun sound captivates the dance floor.

Vik Jauregui, DJ and producer brings us two moments from the party. "4 AM", pure dark disco with melodic touches, full of deep bass, furious drums, ritualistic synthesizers and voices from other worlds that trap and distort time and space. There is a surprising chopping of voices - typical of Vik productions - that contribute to the nocturnal confusion of dark sunglassed early mornings. A hinge track that helps mark the path of sound hypnosis.

SPÆCIAL PREMIERE: Viktoria Jauregui - 4 Am [Modula]

For its fourth delivery, the promising Buenos Aires/Madrid-based imprint Modula welcomes back skilled – and also promising – producer Viktoria Jauregui. Hailing from La Plata, Argentina, Viktoria was present on Modula’s debut release with the complex and heated cut “Quiero”, part of the six-track compilation “Sortilegios”. After appearing on other VAs on TeQwave and Kyma Komplex, she finally has an EP to call her own filled with what she understands as electronic music for the intelligent dance floors out there: absolutely no fluffiness or pink flamingos, only groovy and highly danceable dark vibes. On the remix duties, Ludmila Fuks (SXDNS361) and V.C.I. Premiered here, the latter’s interpretation.

The name of the Argentinian duo stands for Voltage Controlled Illusion. Creative, as their very own productions, both originals and reworks. For their take on “8 AM”, for instance, the lads deployed their sharp resourcefulness by keeping the aforementioned groovy and highly danceable dark vibes of the original but covered it now with a proper amount of acid.

La Danza de las Bestias is a live electronic music duo formed in 2015 by Sebastián Morán and Luciano Cirone, whose proposal oscillates between techno, acid, house and break. Through their dawless Live Set they seek to imprint in their shows primal, electric and the hypnotic feelings. We are happy to announce that they're joining the Módula family with an EP that builds a bridge between their aesthetic journey and their current projection on the dance floor.

"Los abismos negros" introduces us to a dark atmosphere of a Latin western with clean and spatial guitars; on the electronic highway appear the sung verses of La Danza capturing the feeling of futility, spiritual surrender, syncopation of the individualism in the collective dance that will occur on the dance floor. The track presents connection between psychedelic riffs with small acid ornaments under baths of noisy intensities in a constant rhythmic indie dance skeleton.

SPÆCIAL PREMIERE: La Danza De Las Bestias - Los Abismos Negros [MODULA DISCOS]

We could not have a more suitable release for our premiere 666 than La Danza De Las Bestias’ debut EP on the rising & shining Modula Discos. Founded in 2015 by Sebastián Morán and Luciano Cirone, the La Plata-based live-act duo holds no punches when it comes to combining experimentation and innovation for their insightful output. Electronica, Acid, Techno, House, Breaks, Indie, & whatnot are seamlessly blended to deliver what the lads understand as dance-floor-oriented or laid-back-pointed underground electronic music. They land on the growing Argentinian label with the hellish “Los Abismos Negros”, a two-original outing featuring the respective remixes made with love by Corresponsal and V.C.I.

Premiered here, “HW1” is a proper showcase of Sebastián and Luciano’s capabilities. Through its upbeat but dark aura, “a nocturnal narrative of jungle terrains unfolds, plagued by spectral voices, synthetic screeches, and an acid line that runs through the entire track”, states the original press release. Wonky and glitchy, the theme could not aspire to something less than set its audiences ablaze as they inadvertently lose not only their flesh but also their souls to the entity they evoke with their lecherous dance. Kudos!

Modula is proud to present its sixth release, "YAR Remixes", the remix of the original album by Voltage Controlled Illusion, the label's founding duo with Flamme and Yerno Vil as protagonists.

While the original contains the traces that mark the label's sonic direction from its foundations, composed through machines in an artisanal process of sound design, sequencing and arrangements, YAR Remixes is the work of ten creative minds that reformulate the narrative, functional and expressive character of each track.

We bring you an album that has been dissected, reworked and reinterpreted by huge international artists carefully selected to expand the sound spectrum of YAR. We have the presence of Álvaro Cabana (Rotten City Records), Playa del Karma (Logia Records), Tucu (Tucu) (Katarsis Electrónica), Cosmosolar (Modula, Phisica), Vleks (Chaos Candance), Ricardo Ruben (Playground Records), Perrone (Disco Halal), Prinze (Epicure Music), Gueva (Jeahmon, Phisica) and Mistery Kid (Femnoise Records).

Each of them develops a natural appropriation, turning each of the album's sonic insignia towards diverse aesthetic destinations that include traces from acid house to industrial techno, all based on the original indie dance retro character of the progressive school.

Playa Del Karma (a.k.a. Mauro Chianea) was born in Neuquén Capital, Patagonia Argentina, and since he was a child clinging to a guitar he took his first steps into music, debuting on stage when he was only 13 years old. Over time he incorporates new instruments, participates in various projects of different genres, sometimes on bass, percussion, keyboards, synthesizers and even dedicated his days to production, recording and mixing.

In 2013 he began his first steps in electronic music production, and then his first steps in live mixing.

Starting in 2014, he created a new space where he transformed everything he thinks, feels and lives in a new format that he calls Playa Del Karma, going from House to Techno, but based on Indie Dance, passing through various branches of House, Break, etc.

In 2017, settled in the City of Buenos Aires, with this new identity, and traveling the world, he has played in different venues and cities in Argentina (Crobar Club, Vision Festival, Avant Garten), in Spain (the legendary Sol room in Madrid , Cadvra Club, in Recreo Barcelona) in New York, in Miami, and in different cities in Mexico, such as Oaxaca, Puerto Escondido, Torreón and more.

Member of the renowned Logia Records label that he founded in 2020 along with other artists from the Buenos Aires scene, he has released music (in addition to Logia) on U'reguay Records, Maleante, Golden Soul Records, Quixotical, among others.

PREMIERE - V.C.I. - Martes (Prinze Remix) (Modula)

Released in October last year on the rising & shining Buenos Aires/Madrid-based label Modula, the bold and well-received ten-original album “Yar” by Argentinian duo Voltage Controlled Illusion – V.C.I. for short – is now back with an interesting collection of remixes. On board, talents from many different corners of this doomed and cursed little blue dot we live on: Álvaro Cabana (RASTROLIVE003), Playa del Karma, Tucu (Tucu), Cosmosolar, Vleks, Ricardo Ruben (SXDNS103), Perrone, Prinze, Gueva (SXDNS292), and Mistery Kid (SXDNS398) held no punches and delivered insightful interpretations, resulting in a colourful and kaleidoscopical parcel.

If last year we had the opportunity to review the frenzied “Cursed”, we now give a go on the bossy rework cooked by Ricardo Ruben, one of the most prominent South American artists of his generation. After solid appearances on Playground, Controlla, Rotten City Files, Phisica, Side Up Works, Emerald & Doreen, and Bonkers, just to name a few, Ricardo debuts on Modula with a punchy interpretation of “Escandalo”. The plethora of acid of the original is still there, but now with the company of absurd percussive elements plus beautiful synth leads and layers that deliver a certain psychedelia to the theme.
