Following her critically-acclaimed single ‘False Prophets’ on OFF Recordings at the start of September, as well as a mammoth remix of Sisko Electrofanatik and Dyno’s ‘Sequence X’, one of the European techno circuit’s most cherished contributors - Simina Grigoriu - returns to her own esteemed Kuukou Records with her brand-new hit ‘Raw Sugar’. 

‘Raw Sugar’ is another impeccable masterclass in trippy, industrial techno from an artist whose growth and creativity are ever-flourishing. Delivering on tight, impactful beats, Simina employs a flurry of ambiguous, twinkling synth elements that give this cut a kaleidoscopic effect. Heavily influenced by her local scene in Berlin, Simina’s output is founded on raw, meditative percussion and euphoric synth-work; conducive to the darkened, intimate club scene that the city is so famous for. 

Romanian-born, Toronto bred Simina Grigoriu has been steadily racking up accolades during her almost fifteen year-long career and now stands as one of techno’s most beloved producers. With an impressive back-catalogue of releases across the scene’s most influential labels as well as a stacked resume of stand-out performances, Grigoriu is primed to enter into the genre’s upper echelons. 

Launched in 2016, Kuukou Records has served as an invaluable platform for the underground community, sharing the authentic perspectives of both established and up-and-coming artists alike. With countless offerings scattered within the imprint’s storied discography, Simina’s Kuukou opuses are fully reflective of the label’s forward-thinking ethos and allow her to present music with unbounded creativity.

Say What? steps into 2024 with heat from our Japanese label regular - Nobuharu Morimoto packed up in a 4-track EP.

We start off with the track 'Renda' - a piano powered monster that reminds us of those early 90s warehouse parties. Deep yet driving and full of surprises this track has Nobuharu’s unique approach to techno all written over this.

Second up on the release is 'Ao', a deep roller instantly sweeps you off your feet with its infectious vibe. The dark elevating elements and unfiltered sound is a testament to the essence of techno and crafts a sonic narrative that transcends conventional boundaries.

Third on the release is 'Kippu'. Bass-heavy and trippy are the first words that come to mind when hearing this track. A hypnotic melody leads the way while the deep kick drum blasts the woofers of the systems whereever this will be played.

Last but not least we have 'Outsider' - an acid edged track that seamlessly blends hypnotic rhythms, relentless beats and atmospheric textures into one and showing that Nobuharu is for sure one of the new school players in the scene!

After Patrick Chardronnet's cover version of Jean-Michel Jarre's classic 'Oxygene Part II' Second State Audio revives another classic: “Direct Dizko” This is a masterful rework of the iconic track 'S.O. Project - Direct Dizko' a cornerstone in the techno genre that has left an indelible mark since its initial release in 1998. The original track, known for its electrifying melody and pulsating energy, was first introduced as part of Samuel Onervas' S.O. Project and has undergone various remixes over the years, including notable versions by Dub Foundation, T78, and Housequake. These adaptations have continually revived the track's spirit, showcasing its lasting influence in the techno scene. 

In their latest interpretation, Drumcomplex & Frank Sonic breathe new life into this classic. Retaining the original melody, they infuse it with a heightened sense of aggression and energy, delivering a sound that is both modern and meticulously crafted. The duo's version stands out with its stomping kick and groove, offering a fresh perspective on the beloved techno masterpiece.
