11 - Where Do We Go When We Die

I'm fairly proud of the two main theme of this piece, they have grace and a simplicity that makes it very malleable and expressive. That is, I hope, well displayed through modulation I employed (G-B-D) and frequent switching from major to minor. 
I particularly liked the final bit of the exposition where I reversed the main theme, played it descending instead of ascending, which added a layer of macabre/discord displayed and emphasized through chromaticism and dissonance.
There is still a middle part mising that I may add in the coming days, (although that would transform the form of the piece, so an impromptu might not be the correct title, but we'll see).

This track is a raw outcry from the ashes of California's devastating wildfires.
It channels the anger and frustration of communities left to fend for themselves amidst bureaucratic failures and political negligence.
From underfunded emergency services to delayed disaster aid, the song exposes the systemic issues that have worsened the wildfire crisis.

In January 2025, the Palisades Fire alone destroyed over 12,000 structures and claimed 25 lives... Yet leadership was absent when it mattered most.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was criticized for being abroad during the crisis and for cutting $17.6 million from the fire department's budget beforehand.
Governor Gavin Newsom also faced public outrage for his administration's lack of preparedness and slow response.

"Everything’s Burning" is more than a song. it’s a demand for accountability and a tribute to those who’ve suffered due to systemic neglect.
Let the flames of this anthem ignite awareness and change.

EVERYTHING'S BURNING

“Nobody’s Groovy Anymore” is a sprawling seven-minute epic from Icelandic post-rock collective Laxá & Heima Kvartett, teetering on the edge of prog. The track builds from a foundation of shimmering guitars and insistent pizzicato strings, anchored by Bjarne Guðjohnsen’s thunderous dub-tinged basslines. There’s a restless energy in the shifting time signatures and layered instrumentation—Matthias Helguson’s drums drive the track forward while Mike Taylor’s keys offer both shimmer and shadow. The Heima Kvartett—Lisbeth Heima, Sif Árnadóttir, Natasha Guðmundsdóttir, and Ída Sigurðardóttir—pull the piece in and out of tension with sweeping strings and sudden stabs, making for a journey that feels both cinematic and deeply alive. The groove may be gone—but something stranger, wilder, and far more expansive has taken its place.
