Wasl Album
In Arabic, the word wasl is related to the musical term wasla, which denotes a group of musical works composed on one specific maqam. Wasl Album, hence, is a connection between two different eras and generations, ancient Syrian music before 1950, and our own time.
Wasl Album is a diverse collection of 48 rare musical gems comprising Muwashshahs, Qudud, Dhikr chapters, musical composition, improvised poems, and instrumental taqsims performed by Nawa Band in the form of 7 different classical maqamic wasla's: Yagah, Ushaq, Hijaz, Huzam, Jiharkah, Nahawand, and Nawathar.
All musical compositions presented in the album date back at least the first half of the twentieth century, with some dating back to five hundred years ago. These musical compositions have been forgotten or distorted over the years and were chosen for the album for their artistic beauty and historical value. All of them were thoroughly verified and documented through consulting hundreds of manuscripts and sources in various formats to ensure the most accurate scientific details. Following that, they were recorded (in writing and performance) in their most original forms that have been buried for decades. All of this has been done as a service for Syrian musical history and a step on the way to documenting our great musical heritage.
Our old composers and poets, well-known or obscure, had a great role in inspiring our musical heritage. Today, our interest in documenting their works and bringing them to light, and placing them in the hands of the elite music lovers and musicians, is motivated by the hope of a new musical renaissance that emanates from original artistic foundations, taking off into the future with wings from the past as well as the present.

ألبوم وصل
ترتبط كلمة "وصل" بالمصطلح الموسيقي "وصلة"، والتي تشير إلى مجموعة من الأعمال المؤلفة على "مقام" بعينه، وكذلك ألبوم "وصل" فهو بمثابة اتصال بين حقبتين موسيقيتين مختلفتين، الموسيقى السورية القديمة والملحنين غير المعروفين قبل العام 1950، وزمننا الحالي.
يحوي الألبوم مجموعة نادرة ومتنوعة تضم 48 مؤلفاً من الموشحات، والقدود، وفصول الذكر، والقطع الموسيقية، والقصائد الارتجالية، والتقاسيم الآلية، والتي قامت فرقة نوا بأداءها في وصلات موسيقية مقامية من سبع مقامات كلاسيكية مختلفة وهي: يكاه، عشاق، حجاز، هزام، جهاركاه، نهوند ونوأثر.
يعود تاريخ جميع المؤلفات الموسيقية المقدّمة في الألبوم إلى ما قبل النصف الأوّل من القرن العشرين على الأقل، وعمر بعضها يرجع لما يمتد لخمسمائة عام، وجميعها تم تحريفها على مرّ العقود أو كانت طيّ النسيان. وتم اختيار جميع هذه المؤلفات لجمـالهـا الفنّـي وقـيـمتهــا التـاريخيــةِ، ومن ثم تم تحقيقها وتوثيقها من خلال الإطلاع على عشرات المخطوطات ومئات الوثائق بأشكالها المختلفة وذلك حرصاً على تقديمها بأدق التفاصيل العلمية وتدوينها بشكلها الأصيل (كتابةً وأداءً) والذي كان غائباً لعقود. وقمنا بذلك كلّه خدمة للتأريخ الموسيقي السوري وخطوة على طريق توثيق تراثنا الموسيقي العظيم.
لقد كان للملحِّنين والشعراء  القُدامى، المعروفين منهم والمغمورين، أثــرٌ جليلٌ في إلهام ذاكرتنا الموسيقيـة. وإنّ اهتمامَنـا اليومَ بتوثيق أعمالهـم وإخــراجَها إلى النـور، ووضعِهـا بين أيــدي نُخْبــةِ المستمِعين والموسيقيين، يَحدوهُ الأملُ بنهضةٍ موسيقيةٍ جديدةٍ قائمةٍ على أُسُسٍ فنيّةٍ أصيــلة، تنطلق إلى المستقبل بأجنحةٍ من الماضي والحاضر.

This is a track from the first album, "Ancient Sufi Invocations and Forgotten Songs from Aleppo" in the Sacred Voices of Syria series out April 19, 2014 on Lost Origin Sound Series & Electric Cowbell Records. "Ancient Sufi Invocations and Forgotten Songs from Aleppo" was recorded by Jason Hamacher in Aleppo, one of the world’s oldest cities, in October of 2010.  The recording took place at night in the courtyard of a 500 year-old house. The songs are haunting, delicate and beautiful.
