و لمَّا تَلاقينا على ســـــــفحِ رامَةٍ ** وجدتُ بنان الـــــــعامريَّةِ أحمرا
فقلتُ خضبتِ الكفَّ على فراقنا؟! ** فقالت : معاذ الله , ذلك ما جرى
ولكنَّنِــــــي لـــــــما وجدتُكَ راحلاً ** بكيتُ دماً حتى بللــت به الثرى
مسحت بأطراف البنانِ مدامعي ** فصار﻿ خضاباً في اليدين كــما ترى

شرح الأبيات !!
وهي أن قيس ابن الملوح كان يريد أن يسافر فسألته ليلى الى أين انت ذاهب؟ فقال:اريد ان أسافر لأنشر شعري وأبحث عن رزق لي واعود . ثم سألته متى ستعود فأجابها بأنه لايدري.
ومرت السنون والاعوام ثم عاد ولما عاد وجد أطراف أصابع حبيبته ليلى أصبح لونها أحمر ..وكان في زمنهم ان من حنت(خضبت كفوفها) مخطوبه اي يفهم انها مخطوبه ..
فقال لها:هل خضبتي كفك ياليلى بعد فراقي وانخطبتي؟؟ 
قالت : لا ولكنني منذ رحيلك وانا ابكي حتى ابتل الثرى( الارض او التراب)
وكل يوم امسح دموعي بيدي حتى دمت (سال منها الدم) يداي.
