The suunet forest is considered one of the oldest and largest natural reserves in Khartoum State. It was included in the natural reserves system in 1939. It is a traditional, vital, and natural area, most of whose trees are made up of acacia, which is characterized by its high resistance to floodwaters that usually submerge the forest in the fall. The forest is considered a haven for many resident and migratory birds such as geese, cowbirds, terns, ibises, ducks, river gulls, and herons. Most of them are considered rare birds, in addition to many sparrows and birds resident in poor savanna areas.
