Rolling In The deep - المرمغه في الغويط

Going way back to the turn of the millennium with my brother Chris Annibell aka Osiris & Mino Cinelo. Here was our typical day in Brooklyn 2000. I was making coffee's at The Bergen Beat Cafe, Brooklyn. Chris comes over we talk shop for a few hours about music, parties, politics. We go to Pizzatown on 5th ave, grab 2 slices each & talk shop with Nick & Vinny. Then we walk go to Chris' house with some samples, flip on the MPC 2000 to chop samples & mess with beats... bring those back to my place & mess with the ASR-10 keys. Lastly, we record it all to my VS-880 about 50 times turning things up & then down & then up again. Lastly, we record Mino Cinelu when everyone was out of the apartment & things were quiet.  We mix it all down again & again until it was time to master it at Ron's Atlantic West Studios. Then, test it in the car & in the clubs about a week... make more changes & make the artwork & the jump photos! This release came out on Giant Step Records & is now on WONDERWHEEL Recordings. www.wonderwheelrecordings.com

The Brooklyn Gypsies are a group of NYC based musicians/ producers whose creative influences draw from the constant shifting of an ever changing urban sociopolitical landscape while retaining their unique cultural backgrounds through what has come to be recognized as “Gypsy” music.

Originating from Spain, Japan, Russia, Italy & U.S.A. BK Gypsies truly represents Brooklyn’s diverse ethnic heritage and style. The gypsies came to be in 2012 within Williamsburg Brooklyn’s Studio BPM music scene. Members include: Carmen Estevez, Takuya Nakamura, Tina Kristina, Brandon Lewis, Troy "Mobius" Simms & Zeb "The Spy From Cairo". After a number of collaborative projects between the artist were explored the opportunity to form a band that incorporated elements from each project arose. The groups sound is an infusion of Mediterranean, North African, Arabic Themes with Electronic, Dancehall and Dub Reggae. The term "Gypsy" was incorporated into the band name representing the nomadic spirit & way of life within this musical journey.

The first glimpse of Nickodemus' forthcoming album in Spring 2017 is a new collaboration with singer & songwriter Alsarah (Alsarah and the Nubatones). "The Crow" moves deep into 122 BPM stacking synth house that lyrically tells a story of ones identity in the metaphor of a Crow who looses his/ her feathers & tries to replace them with others. Saagan (the new project by super house producer Andreas Saag) turned in a beautiful melodic remix that turns deep Detroit with the sounds of Crows & Arabic strings.

"Alkoan Kulu Bidoor" is a cover song made famous by the Egyptian Nubian pop singer Mohamed Mounir & features the lyrics of Abdel Rahim Mansoor roughly translated as "the whole Universe turns and we turn with it; "today is a sea we cross to reach our dreams" The new version takes the song to the new millenium with a classic Nickodemus hip hop meets dub beat & live Oud by the Spy from Cairo. iZEM (Soundway Records) delivers a heavy hitting footwork version bound to rock any global bass party Worldwide.

Got to see The Clash when they played "Broadway" in '81, 2 nights. If I remember correctly the Slits opened one night and Grandmaster Flash the other night. I saw them again one more time later in Florida. I have the greatest respect for the band but especially for Joe Strummer. The epitome of cool and substance and Rock n Roll.
