He whose blessed face is the midday sun, his blessed cheeks are the full moon,
He whose self is the light of guidance and whose generosity is an ocean

The Qur'an is our source proving other religions are abrogated,
When its guidelines came to us, the other books became non-existent

Tooba Le-Ahle Baldatin Fee-hun-Nabiyul Mohtasham
The sadness of separation [from Madinah] feels like a sword deep into my liver,
How fortunate are the people of that city in which the Exalted & Beloved Prophet resides

Akrim Lana Youmal Hazeen Fadlaw Wa Judaw Wal Karam
O Mercy for the worlds! You are the intercessor for the sinners,
Shower your blessings upon us on the Day of Grief

A beautiful and powerful prayer composed in verse by Sidi Muhammad bin Nasir al-Dar`i (d. 1085H/1674CE), founder of the Nasiriyya Zawiya in the Moroccan village of Tamgrout. 

This exquisite rendition by the traditional singers of Fez was recorded and produced by Sandala (formerly Alhambra) Productions under the guidance of Shaykh Hamza Yusuf, may Allah preserve him.

حادي الهوى للحمى حِث الجمَل وانهار


واصل مسير الركب طول الدجى ونهار


من زود نار الجوى انهد العزم وانهار


يا قلب إطو الهوى عن عين العويذل طيّ


وشد الرحل مع ركب يطوي الفيافي طيئ


إلى مقام الكرم ما جود حاتم طي


إلا بلل من بحور المصطفى وانهار



يا مولانا يا والي يا متعال سامحنا يا ربي في يوم الأهوال

يا مولانا اغفر ذنبي يا غفار حتى همي يزول وتُمحى لي الأوزار
واني خوفي يزيد من ويلات النار يا رحمن ارحمني في يوم المآل


واني الشوق خلا عيوني ما تَنَام وبحب هادينا عاشق قلبي مستهام
صلِّ يا رب على طه دوام وصحابو اللي كانوا نجوم الهدى والآل

يا ما بكيت بليلات الشوق ونهار ودموعي تريد أمدادك لي وانظار
يا نيال كل مين عبوابك زوار حطوا حمالهم هالحين ارتاح البال

يا ركبان روحوا لطيبة وجدوا السير خلوا جمال الركب تسبق جناح الطير
تاتكون أول منزلة لكم صباح الخير بأرض طيبة الطُهر يا طيب ذاك الحال

بالشوق ياما قلوب طارت يمهم ونسيت أهلي والوطن في حبهم
أرجوهم كرمال طه وناجيهم ما بقى لي من النوى إلا ارتحال



أنا المشتاق يا عاشق جماله أنا المضنى أنا الباكي عحاله

أروم اعتاب هادينا محمد وقبل أرض داستها نعاله

أنا المشتاق يكفيني وصاله وما للصب غير الوصل ما له

أنا قاصد حمى المحبوب سلم على نور الهدى وصحبه وءاله

بالله سيروا الروح ودّها زيارة تشتاق نور المصطفى ودياره

مشتاق أدخل من باب السلام يهنى فؤادي في حمى التهامي
والطيب يحيي الروح من مقامه فيه الهدى فياض من أنواره

يا يوم واصل فيه للمدينة يا يوم ما حلى نسمة رياحينه
والروح لاقت بالحمى سكينة وتروم من خير البرايا انظاره

بجوارك قبرك يا حبيبي الغالي أنسى دنيا الناس وأهلي ومالي
ما يعود عندي غير الشوق وحالي هيمان يا ريت أني موت جواره

ومن ماء زمزم يا حبابي سقيوني وعبواب أحمد من عطفن دلوني
وبربوع طيبة شاهد نور عيوني نيال قلبي بالهادي واسراره

يا مولانا - حضرة مديح

The power of this prayer of Imam Muhammad al-Dar’i lies in its simplicity, its purity, and its sincere supplication. It is essentially a plea to God that our transgressions be overlooked, that divine mercy be bestowed upon us, that social justice be restored in spite of us, that wrongs be righted, and that righteousness reign once again in our lands, so that the destitute may no longer be in need, the young may be educated, the animals’ purpose fulfilled, rain restored, and bounties poured forth. It is a plea to be freed from the aggression of foreigners in lands over which they have no right – a plea much needed in our modern world, rampant as it is with invasions and territorial occupations. Ultimately, it asks not that our enemies be destroyed, but simply that their plots, and the harm they cause, be halted. Its essence is mercy, which in turn is the essence of the Messenger of God, Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: “And We have only sent you as a mercy to all the worlds.”
