A welcome returning figure to the Meanwhile Roster, Mike Rish is no stranger to success. With numerous cross-genre hits under multiple aliases, his own name sees him reach rarefied heights in the Progressive House genre with work signed to Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Guy J’s Lost & Found and Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music.

December 2021 saw a Meanwhile debut with the sublime 3-track “Beyond” EP, while April 2023 witnessed a standout reworking of Jamie Stevens’ “Storm Front”. Returning for a second outing, his latest triple tracker opens with the funky rhythmic backdrop of “GT”. Using an intricate percussive arrangement to provide a club-friendly foundation, a swathe of stereo-panned textures and synth effects meander across the opening movements, accompanied by delay-infused vocal cuts. A smooth arpeggio adds a touch of traditional progressive drive at the breakdown and beyond, while a further synth motif blossoms in the second half to sit alongside the rasping and explosive bassline.

Continuing the effects-laden narrative, “Shoreditch Funk” quickly makes its mark with a woodblock infused percussive top-line. Stereo-panned pads and saw-tooth synths pulsate in dizzying fashion while a grooved bassline adds dancefloor ‘funk’. A cascading arp makes its presence felt, pitching in freeform oscillator glory at the break, before continuing unabated in detuned fashion throughout the second half. The result is a vibrant sonic collage that bristles with verve and innovation.

The final track witnesses another meticulously conceived rhythmic arrangement throughout “Reka”, with a subtle bass sequence providing dancefloor sensibilities alongside a heavy 4/4 beat. An acetylene-torch lead mesmerises with its glissando phrasing while a glassy motif combines with gently pulsing pads that swim enticingly in smooth juxtaposition. Continuing themes redolent in previous outings, a beautifully imagined synth phrase syncopates in exquisitely cadenced rhythm alongside percussive counterparts. “Reka” then evolves into a delicately conceived melodic jewel in the latter stages.

“GT / Shoreditch Funk / Reka” continues to find Mike Rish very much at the leading edge of modern and pioneering Progressive House.

First released in December 2022, Dimuth K and his "Avalanche / The Shaman" brought the year to a climax in imposing fashion. Now Proton Music revisits the award-wining Sri Lankan's EP with a pair of remixes from UK and Colombian artists.

Dan Orsen has been a figurehead in the modern progressive house movement for over a decade. First coming onto the radar with earl work for Optimized Recordings in 2014, the UK born, Austrian based artist has gone on to become a staple of Sudbeat Music, Particles and Cid Inc.'s Replug, where he also heads A&R for the Finnish label. A regular on Proton Music with a half dozen remixes since 2016, Orsen has found himself reimagining such key figures as GMJ & Matter, Roger Martinez and Hot TuneiK. Now returning for the first time since May 2021, Orsen has created a driving floor-filler that builds with immaculate craftsmanship over its 8-minute voyage. A superb bassline groove propels the new interpretation of "The Shaman" forwards while a 303-tinged lead line filters to a mesmerising climax at the breakdown before becoming a main feature in the third movement. Rising and falling in waves of sonic intensity, Orsen's skill is to take Dimuth K's work and transport it into a new vibrant direction, while retaining the key sonic characteristics of the original.

A regular contributor to Proton Music with his contributions to Kamilo Sanclemente's "Beyond the Future, Vol 1", May 2022's "Equilibrium" and his "Elevate" EP, Dabeat has found himself at the upper echelons of the progressive house scene in recent years. Contributing to that success, the Colombian's work for the likes of Plattenbank, Sprout and Anjunadeep have shone a light onto his burgeoning talent and growing portfolio. Following a remix for Rick Pier O'Neil in late 2022, Dabeat now returns to Proton with an outstanding interpretation of "Avalanche" that is propelled forward by a pounding beat and chunky offbeat percussion. Adding arpeggiated urgency with melodic poise, new production elements are seamlessly combined with core themes found in Dimuth K's original as the track is given a new edge and melodic weight. Pausing at the breakdown alongside metronomic kick and shimmering synth lines, the track blossoms in the second half to magical effect.

New interpretations from Orsen and Dabeat have created a new sonic storm for "Avalanche / The Shaman".

Clubsonica Records caps off a strong spring season by welcoming Claudiu Adam to the label for his debut EP. Formerly known as KeyPlayer and armed with a foundation in piano, Claudiu Adam is a distinguished Romanian artist currently calling the United States home. With a diverse studio repertoire, Claudio is proficient in crafting downtempo to organic and progressive house, as well as uplifting trance. It's this amalgamation of sound which garnered him acclaim across the electronic music underground, consistently delivering impactful records through esteemed labels such as Armada Music, Coldharbour, Future Sound of Egypt, Pure Trance and Where The Heart Is, amongst others. Now, putting a focus on the organic side of his repertoire, Claudiu makes his Clubsonica debut with 'Dreams & Secrets | Unfaithful', alongside remixes from Greg Ochman and Nicolas Viana.

The release concludes with Nicolas Viana making his label debut with the lone interpretation of 'Unfaithful'. Based in Tucuman, the Argentinean artist first emerged two years ago and has enjoyed a meteoric ascent in the world of progressive and organic house. On the strength of a contribution to One Of A Kind's 'Melody Masters Exclusive' collection, Nicolas would go on to record projects for Amulanga, Flug Lab, Melody Of The Soul, Nordic Voyage, Or Two Strangers and Peace Symphonies, amongst others. Now, fresh off a remix for Get Physical's organic offshoot Kindisch, Nicolas adds Clubsonica to his resume with a groovy rendition of 'Unfaithful'. Opting for a deeper and decidedly nostalgic approach, it's a warm anchor of key changing grooves which lay the foundation for flashing percussion and Mediterranean-infused melodies to carve a path into an emotive break. Here, Nicolas' musical prowess shines with a heartfelt theme and wispy effects taking centrestage, bringing with them hopeful moments, before shifting energy into a summer-inspired finale.

Ezequiel Arias - Airwave (Original Mix) [Suara]

With their first collaborative project Artfaq and Ezequiel Arias land on Cid Inc's Replug Records with 'Babel'. Hailing from Cordoba, Nacho Ferroni and Nacho Varela make up the Artfaq production team. The Argentinean duo have found favour amongst progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while finding a home on Antrim's rapidly rising Or Two Strangers imprint. Similarly, upon making his debut in 2013, Cordoba resident Ezequiel Arias quickly became a favourite of the two storied DJs as well, eventually leading to releases on Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank Records, Sudbeat Music and Suara. Also a member of the Replug artist roster, Ezequiel made his label debut in November of 2017 with a contribution to the 'Defined 01' collection. Now making a welcome return to the Finnish imprint, Ezequiel pairs with label debutants Artfaq for a highly anticipated EP. 

Comprised of two tracks it's the title piece 'Babel' which leads the release off.  Putting your emotional centres on high, a bed of warm beats and hip swinging rhythms set the stage for a full, driving groove. Redolent effects add an astral charm as the first act unfolds, while fragmented melodies are gently teased as the main break commences. Coming to full realization yet tastefully indistinct, it's a musical narrative for the astute connoisseur, delivering a profound emotional message before smoothly transitioning into a groovy finale. 

Rounding out the EP is the equally stunning 'Polaroid'. In crafting a smooth rolling groove, the Argentinean trio have fashioned a strong foundation, complemented with hypnotic pulses and percussive drive. Charming in design and emotive in delivery, harmonic phrases slowly engulf the framework, carrying the piece into joyous second act. As the bassline melts down, melodic motifs converge, opening up for moments of exuberant warmth and hopeful reflection, before a pulsating final act unites rhythm and groove for devastating dance floor dynamics.  It caps off a hugely successful collaborative project from three of Argentina's most highly touted artists. A meeting of music minds where the end result further cements Replug's ethos of delivering unique and exciting projects.
