Artist Statement – Omid Saidi:
I am Omid Saidi, a musician from Bushehr, a city in southern Iran. Khargian Gazelle is my first official solo album as a composer and vocalist. Before this, I released the album In the Oil Fields with the group Otagh.
This album intertwines elements of southern Iranian folk music with electronic textures, forming a new space to revisit the natural world of Iran’s south—from plains and rivers to palm groves and the Persian Gulf.
Yet, nature is not merely a subject here. It is a vessel—one through which protest, longing, and endurance are voiced in a world that is constantly changing.
Kharg is an oil-rich island in southern Iran, known for its unique environment. It is also marked by the forced presence of gazelles that were relocated there, gradually reshaping the island’s natural landscape.

"مراحل طبخ "خروس فسنجان" بدین صورت است که عرض می‌کنم:
گَمَجی سفالی را به قدر کافی آب ریزند و بر اجاق نهند و خروسی جوان و فربه را قطعه قطعه کرده، به نمک و فلفل تازه سابیده، با اندکی زردچوبه طعم دار کنند و با یک عدد پیاز درشت زرد درون گمج بار نهند. یک ساعتی که گذشت و خروس پخته گشت، پیاز و خروس را از گمج خارج کرده، دو مشت گردو تازه چین را که در انتهای فصل تابستان به بار می‌نشیند با چرخ دستی یا "نمک یار" می‌سابند و اندکی تفت دهند، به درون گمج ریزند تا گردو در آب پخته گردد و به آن ربّ انار ترش اضافه کنند و این خورش دلربا را به حال خود گذارند تا قُل زند و قُل زند و قُل زند... تا بدان جا که رنگش تیره گردد. حال تکه های خروس پخته را درون فسنجان اندازند تا در آب فسنجان بیشتر بپزد و طعم ترشی گیرد، دوباره تکه های خروس را خارج کنند و در گوشه ای گذارند و شعله را کم کنند تا فسنجان به آرامی غلیظ گردد و جا افتد، کمی پیش از پایان کار، "کَچَ" (کفگیر آهنی) را بر آتش نهند تا رنگش رو به سرخی رود، سپس کفگیر گداخته را درون آب فسنجان اندازند تا خورش رنگش رو به سیاهی نهد و آهن خوراک متعادل گردد و این کار را چند بار تکرار کنند. حال که فسنجان غلیظ و سیاه گشت، تکه های خروس را دوباره بدان اضافه کنند و در کنار برنج کته (درست آن است که اندکی دودی باشد)، ماهی سفید دودی، تُرب سیاه و فلفل سبز میل کنند. چه بهتر که روزی بارانی و هوا اندکی رو به سردی باشد."

Born in 1976 in Khorasan province, one of epicenters of poetry and music north east of Iran, Mohsen Namjoo is a Singer Songwriter, Music scholar and Setar (traditional Persian lute) player currently based in New York City. Featured on many world renowned press such as NY Times, The Guardian, BBC, LA times and many more Namjoo is considered a visionary artist who speaks for the youth in Iran. Seamlessly blending the Classical Persian music and scales with electric guitar,Rock and Blues vocal techniques with Persian Avaz (singing). He fuses the ancient with the current. His unique style of singing and effortless mixture of music from east and west has made him an iconic persona in contemporary world music.

Since his arrival to the U.S. in 2009, Namjoo has been touring the world to sold out concerts at prestigious halls including Palace of Fine Arts, San Francisco; Conservatorio Sala Verdi, Milan, Italy;  Disney Hall and Mark Taper Forum, Los Angeles, Barbican Hall, London, Symphony Space NYC, Volkswagen Arena Istanbul and many more. He is one of the few middle eastern artists who has following all across the world from Tehran to New York to Melbourne to Istanbul to Berlin and many more cities.
