Turbo Dreams 001 - Mojave

Air date: 18 Feb 2020. @sarahstrandberg's style of unrelenting, dark and dancefloor friendly techno, her connection with the crowd and positive attitude have earned her a solid reputation as a DJ. With releases on labels like Decoy, De-Konstruct, Technodrome, Physical Techno Recordings and Shout Records, Sarah is equally skilled in the studio.

A Montana native, Sarah moved to Los Angeles and quickly established her own techno night, Fallen Angel, providing a platform and blazing a trail for women techno DJs, and held two residencies, L.A. Structures and PANIC. In 2018, she made the bold move to Berlin and immediately landed a monthly residency at Der Weiße Hase. She's played top parties around the U.S. and Europe such as VOID, KitKat, Griessmuehle, ExchangeLA, Incognito, 6AM, Synthetik Minds, Dirty Epic, Analogue Division, and Energetica.

Turbo Dreams 005 - Sarah Strandberg

Turbo Dreams episode 006 is my friend @akkamiau (@femalepressure) with an hour of healing experimental techno under her hiT͟Hərˈto͞o alias.📡

A Czech native now based in Berlin, akkamiau is an experimental live artist and composer with 15+ years of experience under her belt, playing major clubs like Suicide Club Berlin and ://about party.

She's also a professional audiovisual/performance artist with a PhD in this field. Recently, she brought together her two worlds by curating a live, choreographed performance art piece in a gallery with audiovisuals, dancers, and music from her album "InTerjeCtions," which you can check out here: https://detund.bandcamp.com/album/interjections-ep.

Coming in June, she'll be premiering a spatial sound composition recorded on a Moog Music Inc. Grandmother at her Factory Berlin x Sónar+D artist residency.

Turbo Dreams 007 is Sweden-born, Berlin-based artist @Amavii (@femalepressure). I've been a fan of her eclectic style for years, and always look forward to her sets, each of which is truly a journey.

She's well-traveled and has lived all over the world -- Sweden, West Africa, the U.K., California -- which no doubt has enriched her sound. Now making waves living in Berlin and playing clubs like Ritter Butzke, VOID Berlin, and Suicide Club Berlin, Amavii is in demand and keeps a busy international tour schedule.

Together, Lacey and I are part of LA's Jill's House crew -- she's become a great friend, and also we're musical twins, sharing a love of everything from house and techno to post-rock, shoegaze, and ambient music.

She's a Texas-born, LA-based producer, DJ, dancer, and event organizer, mixing tunes strictly for the love of dancers since 1998. Watching her DJ and listening to her tunes is a masterclass. Influenced by the sounds of Chicago, New York, Detroit, Berlin, and London, her DJ sets travel a road of many sounds, from disco, tribal, acid, and afro house to deep, dark techno rhythms peppered with improvised samples, loops, and acapellas.

Equally awesome is her range of productions, which, outside of house, techno, and experimental funk, reaches into the realms of ambient, trip hop, synth pop, and chillwave, via her alter ego, Inquiri, with two full-length albums and a number of remixes, singles, and mixtapes released since 2010.

Turbo Dreams 008 - Lacey IQ

For this episode of Turbo Dreams,  Swiss-born, Berlin-based DJ/producer Rosa Luxemburg (@rosaluxemburgdj) threw down a driving techno set with great variety.

A DJ since 2003, Rosa's ability to seamlessly and beautifully blend techno, house, and deep house into killer sets has earned her regular spots at Berlin clubs like Anomalie Art Club, ://about blank and international gigs throughout Europe. She's equally skilled in the studio--with two recent releases under her belt--and by day she works for Ableton! I also love her moniker (Rosa Luxemburg was a revolutionary badass)! I had the pleasure of meeting her through our Berlin crew, @femalepressure.

This episode, we were honored to have LA's First Lady of House @julietmendoza, spinning a hard funky techno set.

With 20+ years of experience as a DJ, dancer (Open House Family), event organizer (Jill's House), producer, and vocalist, @julietmendoza is a trailblazer and well-respected leader in our scene. Anyone who's seen her in action can attest to her incredible talent and radiant, magnetic energy that set her apart.

We love Denver-based @nyxia-music's style and were excited to have her on FNOOB! Turbo Dreams 011 - Nyxia

DJ Devil Girl (@devilcaketechno) takes the reins on tonight's "Turbo Dreams" to showcase her signature sound, which ranges from hard, dark, off-kilter industrial techno mixed with Chicago and Detroit classics to full-on techno bass and electro.

She's a well-respected, Minneapolis-based artist who spent the 1990s playing techno in warehouses, derelict roller rinks and abandoned strip malls all over the U.S. and Canada. After a long break, Devil Girl's appearance at the Headspace Dome during Drop Bass Network's Even Furthur 2016 brought her back into the techno/electro music fold.

Very happy to have fellow @femalepressure artist, Filipino-American DJ/Producer @888nc (Supervixen, Forbidden Transitions) as my guest host on this month's "Turbo Dreams". For this month's Turbo Dreams, I'm honored to have had as my guest SF/Mexico-based DJ and Producer @misscrafty (@forbiddentransitions / @femalepressure). 

Miss Crafty is the founder of Forbidden Transitions, an underground music collective focused on empowering underrepresented communities with the purpose of embracing “human duality dressed in shades of techno.” 

I've had the pleasure to catch her live sets in person! Her style (sets and productions) is tough, gritty, and uncompromising -- punishing dance floors and catering to connoisseurs of harder, faster styles of techno. She entrances her audience by contrasting raw sounds and melodic patterns. Through music, Miss Crafty hopes to influence others to be authentic and vulnerable towards themselves and each other. With her talent, great attitude, and her efforts helping the music community, she continues to prove that nothing will stand in her way -- she will go far!

Born to an Asian immigrant mother and American father, she draws inspiration from her colorful cultural background and global travels.

“In the world of techno DJs and producers, there are some people who get it, and then there are some who don’t. It’s quite obvious that when listening to Mojave’s sets and productions, that there’s a deep and fundamental understanding of the mechanics of techno and electronic music. If you’re to understand Mojave’s upbringing listening to hard underground music and you pin it up alongside a trained ear with a strong foundation in music theory and history, it’s easy to see why. Mojave’s music comes from a very informed place and when you listen to her selections everything has an interaction and each part of the music is considered on its own. From tonal characteristics, rhythm, pitch, to that essential ill groove that most people seem to gloss over these days, she has it nailed down. Mojave’s musical choices, like all good techno, just make good sense, with function and flow down to every nuance.”
