Slow Groove

This is my first collection of voices of Iranian women. It contains music produced by Iranian female singers and musicians, whose voices have been suppressed in recent years. They are forbidden from singing alone and can only sing along with men.

This is my contribution to reversing this cycle. These songs only have female singers and men -at most- just play along.

I hope you enjoy these beautiful voices and peaceful sounds as much as I do. And if you do, please share it with other friends! Of course I also welcome any feedback.

Voice Of Iranian Women #01

کنار هم گذاشتن این مجموعه برایم کار ساده ای نبود. روز جهانی زن در ایران مفهوم   دیگری دارد. در طول چند دهه اخیر،‌ علی رغم اینکه زنان و دختران ایران زمین پا به پای مردان در همه عرصه های مختلف اجتماعی، سیاسی و شهروندی حاضر بوده اند، ولی حقوق اولیه و طبیعی شان همچنان نادیده گرفته شده است. می دانیم که این در همیشه روی یک پاشنه نمی چرخد. ما به امید زنده ایم و برایش تلاش خواهیم کرد. 

این مجموعه تلاش دارد که بخش کوچکی از این صدا و ملودی های زیبا را کنار هم قرار دهد و لذت شنیدنش را به شما منتقل کند.  تم اصلی گزینش أهنگ ها  «امید» است و از صداهای قدیمی و فراموش شده گرفته تا شعر فروغ و ترانه های یادگار جنبش سبز و اجرای دوباره گنبد کبود را در این مجموعه خواهید شنید. امیدوارم که خوشتان بیاید.

Putting together this latest mix of tracks was an emotional experience. This time the occasion is International Women's Day. A reminder for us all, especially men, that we could do a lot better when it comes to equality,  women's rights and their place in society. 

In this mix you will hear touching women voices and melodic iranian music; sometimes assertive as well as happy ones. Some are also very nostalgic. 
An attempt to be a mirror image of Iran's women movement.

Eve is one of a kind. She is funny and at the same time wise. She is the model in the world of beauties and I am happy that I've met her.
 
This mix is a collection of songs that I have been hearing in Berlin and I really enjoyed putting them together and presenting it. 
I dedicated the set to my beloved sister, Eve, whom my Berlin memories could not be this good without her.

Multi Culti Berlin #2 - Zoha

This is a masterpiece by Kayhan Kalhor. He is an Iranian Kamancheh player, composer and master of classical Kurdish and Iranian traditional music.

Kalhor met members of Brooklyn Rider (New York City-based string quartet) in 2000 at Tanglewood, where they took part in the cellist Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project. 
The title track is an elegy for Halabjah, a Kurdish city razed by Saddam Hussein.

I had a blast this year at Fusion Festival. Once again, it was beautiful to see that amount of artworks and infinite love in the air. A big celebration. 

This is not the perfect mix, but it was the beautiful time with the perfect vibe, thanks to all the people that came to enjoy music from the start. For this set, I have to thank FireSpace friends and all nice fusioners who made that magical morning to happen. Indeed the definition of "a good vibe". 
Also I want to thank Sophie joon whom without her support I could have not made it till here.

Happy Nowruz! 
Two years ago this time, I met Sophie at Wintergarten of Sisyphos in Berlin and our love story started from that point. Yesterday I had an amazing time to celebrate it there. This is the recording of my mix with its sweet springish vibe that was reflected from the dance floor. I wish I could add all those screams and cheers in the mix.

All day I think about it, 
then at night I say it. 
Where did I come from? 
and what am I supposed to be doing? 
no idea!

Who looks out with my eyes? 
What is the soul?
I cannot stop asking.
If I could taste one sip of an answer,
I could break out of this prison for drunks.

I didn't come here of my own accord, 
and I can't leave that way.
Whoever brought me here, will have to take me home.

I started recording this podcast at 4am on a not-quite-spring morning in Berlin. When I began, night ruled the sky and I felt warm and calm. By mid way through, the first hint of sun emerged and out-shone the stars and clouds. All of a sudden: a pleasant dawn (falaq). 
You can hear all of these feelings in the set and I hope you can imagine this special time when you listen to it. Or perhaps you can try it at 4am wherever you live, and tell me how you felt. 
I believe love is transcendent. 
And yes... I recorded it in one take!

Heute hab ich einen ganz besonderen Leckerbissen für euch parat. Dieses megastimmungsvolle Set ist ein Live-Recording von Moji (Motomenja) vom grandiosen Bucht der Träumer Festival 2017. Inspiriert von der Morgensonnen nach einer stürmischen Nacht, spielten Moji, Tom und Svenja ein Herzens-Set für lachende und sonnige Tänzer auf dem Antlantis Floor. Und man kann es nicht anderes sagen … aber die Stimmung kommt voll durch.

Motomenja ist ein Deep-House/Downtempo Projekt der Künstler MOji [@moji-taali], TOM [@te-em-berlin] und svENJA [@plattenstreich]. Eine verwobene Symbiose aus atmosphärischen Klängen, sanften Melodien, treibenden Rhythmen und starken Bässen. Jedes Set lädt auf eine eigene Reise durch die weite Welt des Ambient und Downtempo ein, begleitet von groovigen Live-Elementen und fantasievollen Improvisationen auf der E-Violine.

Moji comes from Northern Iran, now based in Berlin. In the past years his sound has largely propagated in the Berlin music scene. Moji is guiding us to the sounds that help us feel, the sounds that connect us to different places, ourselves, and one another.
