Was working on a tune specially for Halloween, but I had other plans for it, so I thought I'd release this instead. Been sat on this one for a few months after doing a remix contest.

Eat Sleep (Moki Remix)

This was a very big deal for me.

First of all, I was incredibly excited to play at Light Dimension. One of my favourite venues in VRChat, and the first to reduce me to tears from what I heard and saw at an event I had attended prior. After my first set at JP, one of the LDs approached me and we pencilled the date in.

Then there was the set itself. A 90 minute tour of my taste in music, from my own material, to the meme filled wonder of Getter's remix of Pink Guy's "Fried Noodles", to the stunning "Only To Silence" by LLLL, to some of my favourite video game soundtracks (Tunic, Celeste, A Hat In Time, Borderlands), and taking the time to slot in just a *little* bit of techno, as was apparently customary for my sets.

All in all, this was a blast. I put a lot of thought into how the whole set would flow, I really tried to nail the concept of a set that would flow seamlessly upon listening, but would make no sense if just scrubbed through. I wanted to take the audience on a calculated deliberate journey though my musical taste, and I feel like I very much delivered.

And then there were the visual performers.

Oh my goodness, they all nailed it. Spurg the VJ and the three LDs absolutely killed it. They took what I had and made it truly special and unforgettable for myself and everyone else watching.

This is, as of writing, still my proudest project to date, and I cannot wait to go back with the skills I have learned since.

Hi all. Been a while.

This is a re-recording of the first set I performed in VRChat. Sadly there was no recording by any party, oops!

This set means a lot to me for a multitude of reasons.

It was designed to be a statement piece, first and foremost. A slice of me and everything that I do for the VRChat masses to enjoy, at least I had hoped. I hadn't yet performed in VR, and after I was graciously offered a slot at Just Party, I Just Had to accept! (thanks, Sox!)

This wasn't just my first set in VR, but it was also the first I had performed in a long while since a poorly received NYE set a couple years prior, and several past live performances that failed for reasons outside my control, either due to sound technicians closing shop early or my equipment failing me. I had yet to have something go right in the live space since 2017. This was my last and final attempt to please an audience with my music, lest my patience wore out entirely. This HAD to work. 

Thankfully, it did.

The humbling response I got was unlike anything I'd have ever expected. Praise, admiration and love bombarded me from all angles, and it was only then that I knew that I was maybe onto something with this project that was very close to giving up on entirely. For once I felt like my music also had a place and a purpose in the hearts of those I played it to, which is exactly why I loved making it in the first place.

It also brought me closer to people that have since become staples in my life, and I couldn't be happier because of it.

This set represents the start of the biggest turning point in both my career, and my life. It's also a window into the work I've been doing during my absence.

After my previous set at Just Party, I was approached by someone who recognised me by my name, which was a first for me! Someone who had heard my stuff before via my Electromag releases, and wanted me to be a part of his upcoming event at _SEREN. You bet I jumped on that opportunity!

This set was a fairly simple affair, spinning some electro house classics that I know and love, along with a Sientelo remix I was working on. I'm super happy with how it went, all things considered.

Also, _SEREN was a cool af venue at the time of performing, and is substantially cooler now, definitely recommend.

The new venue was fantastic too. The old one was pretty damn cool, but the new one was a lot nicer to play, keeping the brutalist concrete architecture without all the extra performance issues I personally had with the previous venue. My poor 2060 Super.

Pretty happy with how this one went, though! A few tracks in this were originally from a crate I had made a couple years prior for a set that never was, so it was fun to finally play them.

This set was my debut at Beat Syndicate's "Deviate", a club dedicated to all things trance, which has been a semi-guilty pleasure of mine for as long as I can remember. I just love cheese.

I tried to capture that in this set, covering a variety of styles of trance, from the slower progressive house adjacent tracks by deadmau5 and Eminence, and finishing with some heavier tunes by Steve Hill and Dan Stone.

Really really loved this one, and the reception waa fantastic. I cannot wait to return to Deviate in the future, it's quite the spectacle!

In 2017, we released our first live album titled "Technical Difficulties", which we performed at the Sci-Fi Scarborough convention that year. Seven years later, here we are with the second!

Direct To DVD features reworks and mashups of both our discographies, with some bonus additional remixes of some of NineByNine's original works, who performs live vocals and guitar on a few of the tracks throughout the album.

We performed this on July 13th 2024 on YouTube and in VRChat, and this album contains the best takes from both of those shows. We've been working on this for the better part of 2 years, and hope you all enjoy!

This was a return to form with 2 hours of techno for another instalment of Just Party, this time being on a Wednesday, so it was a quieter, more chill affair, set in the M4L-1CE venue in VRChat. I wanted the set to reflect that, by starting off a bit quieter and vibey, before getting a little bouncier, and a little more intense in the second half.

I also couldn't resist dropping a pair of songs from No Mana's latest album. Absolute bop.

Certainly not my liveliest set, but I think it suited the mood pretty well.

MOKIVR012 - Another Techno Set

At the time of recording, this was my favourite techno set that I had done. Various flavours, all neatly bundled into over two hours of fun. The practice I had while on holiday in France certainly paid off!

I originally performed this at Tanja Vujinovic's "Ultramono" - an avant-garde, weird and wonderful venue (more the latter), with a lovely community surrounding it. I had originally been noticed by Tanja as far back as my first set from last year, but it had taken a while for me to get in touch. Who said basic organisation was easy?

Either way, the set was a lot of fun, and I had the pleasure of dropping some absolute classics that I loved as a kid. The vibe and the crowd were great, and I'm very much looking forward to playing for Ultramono again, they were very accommodating!

I decided to give the set another try at Just Party the following night to try and get a better take and show it to a different crowd, and I'm very glad that I did!

I was unable to track down a photo from the venue, but until I find one, I've used a shot from my Light Dimension set, taken by Masserooni.

Another return to _SEREN! 

This time, I wanted to go harder than I had done previously, and so I decided to have another go at a split set, devoting both halves to different genres, this time being Electro House (mostly) and DnB.

This was my highest density of tracks I had put into a single set before, and performing it took some practice, but I really think I nailed it. Played some favourites, both old and new, and closed with Phantasm Light, a track from Direct To DVD WHICH IS OUT NOW ON ALL PLATFORMS!

MOKIVR014 - Leveling Up

I didn't expect to be doing a liquid set until I was approached for another set at Just Party, this time being an opening, hour-long slot on a Wednesday after a fitness session at the same club. Very quiet hours. I wanted to make something more relaxed, something you could happily sit down and space out to, as easily as dance. As my collection already had some liquid in it that I had wanted to spin for a while, and I still had the pleasant taste of DnB in my mouth from the previous set, minimal and liquid DnB was my call.

The set went well, but I felt that the performance could have been a touch better, and I think that an hour wasn't quite long enough to give the experience I sought.

Conveniently, the very next night I was due to play an event called "Transient" (nka Transcendent) and I was given 90 minutes to play any genre. So I took my original set, doubled it, and somehow delivered my cleanest damn performance to date.

I do go back to listen to my sets on occasion, and this one is probably the one I've returned to the most. It's a bit of a personal darling, this one.

Was also lovely to play some tracks from my VR friends Icemanzr and Saturn!

Unfortunately, there were some technical issues on the day that warranted me having to skip a few tracks, so a subsequent rerecord was the version that has gone live. Bit of a hectic set, but a very very fun one.

This one really came together well, I think. I was going for a grungy, darker, industrial vibe overall to really suit the brutalist/industrialist architecture of _SEREN, and I really feel I pulled this one off well. 

My only lamentation was that I didn't crate enough tracks, hence the runtime not being as long. The sets were overrunning regardless, and I could fill the rest of the gap with Phantasm Light from Direct To DVD (out now!), but I've omitted it from the end of this recording as it doesn't quite fit, thematically speaking.

This set was my first to be hosted by the lovely folks at Intermꝋdal, a crew of VR DJs primarily centered around techno, but catering to many genres, even outside of EDM at times.

For this May 4th themed event, I thought I'd bring some old school vibes to the table, with tracks from Derrick May, Legowelt, Vector Lovers, Redshape and more. Given that I had listened to the vast majority of these tunes while growing up, it's certainly one of the most nostalgic sets I've performed.

A deceptively tricky one to perform, was this one, hence this one being a rerecord.

[MOKIVR010] | "May The Forefathers Be With You" | Intermꝋdal 2024.05.04 | Techno

The brief for this set was "Sci-Fi Techno", and it was a very fun one to work with. Techno is arguably a sci-fi adjacent genre, with my favourite flavours (hypnotic and industrial) evoking imagery of large machines with unknown purposes, dirty cities of unimaginable size and strange, brutal architecture and grungy, retro-futurist dystopia. 

To hone in on that sci-fi sound further, I did have the thought of finding sounds to evoke feelings from 70s-80s sci-fi scores, but I wanted to instead pick tracks that featured classic synthesizer sounds and melodies like Matador's "Juniper" or strange weird technological soundscapes like mau5's "Deus Ex Machina" to deliver a very personalised flavour of sci-fi techno, based on feel rather than reference. Tracks either passed or failed my personal vibe check for this one, and one day I hope to expand on that further with my own music.

The end result was a set I am very fond of. Some killer doubles that worked better than I expected, and a really nice flow throughout. Nothing stuck around for too long, and the execution was pretty well done throughout, I feel.

Hey guys.

So, I had a go at remaking one of my personal favorite songs by Foxhunt, titled "Castlevania". Quite an awesome tune this, and I had a hell of a lot of fun remaking it.

The FLP provided requires a few FL Fruity plugins, as well as:

This is also quite a hefty project file made on a reasonably powerful laptop, so I cannot guarantee how well the project will run on whatever device you're using. Also, this was my interpretation of the original, so the sounds within won't necessarily be 100% to the original, as will the production techniques I have used.

I put a bit more time into this than I thought I would, and I'm super happy with the result! It was my first time making straight-up pop music.

Yours (Moki Remix)

UPDATE: Sadly, my hard drive corrupted and had to be wiped along with all of my project files and rendered audio files. The backup I thought I had proved to be nonexistent as well :/. 

Unfortunately, this does mean that new music will be delayed, as I'm effectively starting from scratch, albeit with the skills the last few years have taught me, as well as all of my samples, which were thankfully saved to a different drive.

There are three releases lined up until I make anything new however, two of which for the end of 2020 (not 100% on the dates yet), and the third hopeful being in 2021 (it's a bit of a biggun).

Maybe one day I'll recreate some of these tunes by ear, but for now, this is sadly it :/.

Hey, folks!

Been a while, huh? Thought I'd upload this reel of projects that I have worked on over the last few years, some of which will be released very soon!
