Sekouba Diabaté est né en 1964 à Kintinya près de Siguiri en Haute-Guinée de parents griots. Sa mère, Mariama Samoura, est une chanteuse rendue célèbre par un titre que reprendra plus tard son fils : Apollo. Bien que son père s'oppose à ce que le jeune Sékouba devienne lui même chanteur, il se fait remarquer dans plusieurs orchestres locaux de Siguiri et reçoit, en 1979, le prix du meilleur chanteur de Guinée. Il rejoint alors l'orchestre national le Bembeya Jazz à la demande expresse du président guinéen Ahmed Sékou Touré. C'est là qu'il acquiert son surnom Bambino pour ne pas le confondre avec son homonyme, guitariste virtuose de cet orchestre.

En parallèle à une carrière solo, il rejoint, comme invité puis comme permanent, le groupe "salsafricain" Africando. Déjà présent dans "Gombo Salsa", il chante "Sonfo", qui appelle les hommes à "être à la hauteur", à faire preuve de sagesse, d’attention, d’écoute réciproque.
Avec son album Sinikan, où il mobilise les arrangements de François Bréant qui était intervenu sur l'album "Soro" de Salif Keita, il se fait connaître par un large public comme l'un des meilleurs représentants de la musique mandingue contemporaine. Sa voix de ténor lyrique est proche de celle de Kouyaté Sory Kandia, autre célèbre chanteur guinéen qui a contribué à révéler la musique mandingue.

En 2004, à l'initiative du producteur Ibrahima Sylla, il enregistre avec notamment Kandia Kouyaté, Bako Dagnon, Kémo Kandé, Kerfala Kanté, Kassé Mady Diabaté, une série de standards de la musique mandingue. Ces enregistrements donneront deux CD intitulés "Mandekalou", fleurons des plus grands djéli (griots) mandingues contemporains.

Several years after his successful debut album „Keep It Raw,“ Dusty hits home with this ecelectic 4 track EP which represents a foretaste of his second album „Mood Matters“. The Jazz&Milk label founder consistantly straddles the line between tradition and modernity and proves that an album need not simply commit itself to a genre or two; and in the process ups the ante considerably by featuring a broad spectrum of musical styles, bringing together Dusty’s favourite leanings such as Jazz, Funk, Soul, Afrobeat, Latin, percussive Beats and Deep House rhythms, while seeking a natural balance between accoustic, electronic and traditional sounds through the prism of a club-music oriented approach.

This fusion is brilliantly demonstrated on the title track „Mood Matters“ which meshes forward-driven house beats with organic instrumentation – a big Jazz banger for the dancefloor! „Danse Macabre“ features Dusty’s live band project „Bad Jazz Troupe“ taking you on a wild trip between massive horn sections, heavy beats and deep basslines. On the B-side you’ll find the strong Afro-Funk piece „Seventy Three“ with its sweeping horns, charming Afrobeat guitars and mighty drumbeats and let’s not forget the soulful beauty of „Longing Lingers“, featuring the heavenly voice of Carla Vallet ,as well as one of Munich’s most talented producers, Bartellow.

Catch the video for the title track „Mood Matters“. Paper drum- and tape machines are brought to life through elaborately generated stop-motion sequences which can also be found on the cover artwork - handmade and directed by the artist himself.
