My name is Budy Mokoginta. I'm a guitar player, songwriter and I work with other artists as a producer, mix engineer or master engineer. I never really planned to do so, it just happened. I begun my project studio as an extension to my own musical ambitions, but soon I started to (co) produce and mix for other artists. They came to me for what they call the 'Moko' sound; I love organic sound and don't like to restrict music by some kind of law on how it should sound. The first artist who's album I mixed therefore revered to my studio as the Mokosound studio and ever since that has been the name. Since then I've worked on a lot of different projects with different styles; Pop, Jazz, Soul, HipHop, D&B, Jungle, World music and specially all kinds of crossover between styles. I had a producer contract with Sony Benelux.

These days I concentrate on independent music, which often means trying to get an organic sound of music made or recorded with computers. My main project is with iET and Russ Elevado, my sonic hero. My work with iET involves production, co-writing, concept development and playing a lot of instruments.

About songwriting and producing
Songdesign and producing is the subscript of my logo. What I mean with that is: helping artists to get the best out of their music. Songdesign and producing is all about making the most out of a song. It concentrates on the question how to get the most intense musical experience of a song using it's full potential. The answer is often simple: though it's been a fashion to try to impress the audience with heavy production techniques and intensive mixing tricks, doing less often benefits the song more.

A good song has all the right ingredients in itself. It needs an understanding performance of an artist who is being the song instead of acting it. The production should enhance it's beauty and energy without taking over, like good make up. And like with make up, sometimes not using it is the most perfect solution.

About mixing and mastering
In simple words: mixing is making the music sound great in the mixing studio, mastering is making sure people don't start to jump at their level control fiddling about with their equalizers every new song or on every other sound system they play the songs.
To me the difference between mixing and mastering is in short: mixing is enhancing the energy of the music so that the sound and energy flow is as good as possible, within the given time and budget, in the place you are mixing. Mastering is translating that mix to translate and sound as good as possible on all different sound systems, from i-pod to P.A. while keeping a constant and similar coherence of level and sound between different the different tracks presented on an album.

Some things I learned the hard way: you don't want to fix a song with the production, you don't want to fix the production in the mix and you don't want to fix the mix in the mastering. Give each part of the process your full devotion and when you're stuck; get a second opinion, get advice, get help. Collaborate. No great music is created alone.
