Saturday November 19th, 2023 would have been my dad’s 58th year of life.  Ohhhh, but Freddy P sure made an exit on his birthday this year~~


The night before old man’s bday, I cozied in my tiny closet like a Yung Potter with Dad’s ashes and patchouli, and my oracle cards laid out on his toolbox.  During my meditation there, I heard this voice assure me, “Fred has passed on to new life, and will now reveal himself through them and in others.”
This ::news:: made me sad at first, him not communicating with me through lights or moving objects anymore  (*which by the way was super alarming sometimes, but he DID tell me he would haunt me for a little bit in the afterlife, so I guess I’ll applaud him for that lol*)  Now I am honestly relieved to feel even more at peace with his passing.  Grieving comes in many forms, and this one felt right to me on every level of being.

I went about the next day pretty casual with nothing super exciting planned.  I had lots of energy and motivation, but carried with me some forms of defeat, and even tiny bits of rage slipping here and there.  My day eventually turned around when an angel re-introduced themselves.

Mozying out of the grocery store (one of my safe spaces), I heard an unfamiliar voice shout in my direction, “Hey! I like your jacket!”  
The voice came from a friendly, Asheville-lookin’ specimen who had a percussion setup outside the store.  My dad was a drummer and music lover, and was one of my biggest inspirations to learn the flute while I was growing up.  And my jacket I was wearing had Kokopelli (flute diety) patterns on it.  That felt like a sign from Dad “in others” to me.

Sunny the drummer and I immediately dove into an uplifting, deeply philosophical chat.  He mentioned how we, as a human species must embrace our inner child (and for those who knew my dad, he was a giant man child let’s be honest lmao) and this thought just made my eyes well up with happy tears.  I felt tangible relief for the first time all day.  Releasing those grieving emotions was all the celebration that was needed.  No extravagant soirée, but just honor his life by remaining present and appreciating “the simple stuff”.

The summary of mine and Sunny’s chat was “Love over everything”.  With love, there is loss, but that is the ultimate price we pay to truly live at all.
