Slow Waves is a collection of multi-layered memories, stacked like grainy polaroids in an old box in the closet or under the bed while the colours fade. A young Rob at the beach or on his first day of grammar school. Images of travels across Europe and Japan, moments slipping in trains or planes while landscapes pass by. Memories so unique to his life, yet so similar to the fading memories of youth and adolescence we all have...

After a series of well acclaimed EP’s, each of them created at very specific moments in the artists life, @submerse took the time and sat down to reflect and convert all these memories into his first full length album on Project: Mooncircle.

'Slow Waves' comes out worldwide on limited double vinyl, limited handmade and handpainted cassette edition (both including download code) as well as a limited edition CD including a bonus track via @flaurecords in Japan.

In 2015, digital technology has all but removed the ephemerality of the music making process, allowing for the retention of each and every step in the production process. Whereas the analogue process allowed the dissolution of drum arrangements and synth lines into the ether, software retains nearly everything, a practical development that has nonetheless erased some of the magic and immediacy of dance music. Kastle’s Hyperreality EP, the Los Angeles-based artist’s first release of 2015, is a conflation of past processes and a contemporary approach, decade old files dusted off and freshened up.
 
A love letter of sorts to a younger age, Hyperreality, which also functions as the cap on an eponymous tour, features six tracks that spawn classic garage and jungle sounds, from the maniacally chopped breakbeats on “Experienz” to the diva vocals and crunchy 2-step of “Strange Days”. Seated in deep nostalgia for his teenage years, Kastle’s arrangements on Hyperreality recall an experimental era, pre-internet where the parameters of dance music were yet to be established and rule breaking was the norm.
 
And while Hyperreality might recall a decade-plus old sound, the production value is essentially modern, each track fitting in beautifully as both soundsystem culture and introspectively-motioned headphone music. With a vocal boost from Xavier, Kastle touches on pop motifs throughout the tape, balancing R&B proclivities with the ruthless swing of 2-step and rthythmic energy of garage. Kastle’s aesthetic is based in nostalgia, but don’t trick yourself into thinking Hypereality is just an ode to the past.

Los Angeles producer Sweatson Klank builds his productions as if they were films, developing a story from start to finish, sending listeners on a sonic adventure ripe with ferocity and accented with unique texture. Stylistically, 'Fine Lines' his debut full length for Friends of Friends, picks up where his 2017 'Then I Was Me’ EP left off, melding forward thinking Hip Hop and Electronics as a back drop for a soulful and sultry journey through a tumultuous love affair, loss of self, and the dark empty spaces in our minds. 

The songs on 'Fine Lines' sit in a space occupied by Hip Hop, Future R&B and House, yet the record cleverly transcends any single genre. While much of the production is hard hitting, the album manages to walk a tightrope between heartache and swagger. A meticulous fine line that weaves itself like a thread throughout. Sweatson Klank enlists a number of features on the album including newcomers Ana Calvo, Sarah Saldivia, and Annie Bass as well as past collaborator, Montreal producer Ango. 'Fine Lines’ is a deep front-to-back listen, immersed in multitimbral textures, colors and sentiments that reveal themselves more with each listen.
