It’s safe to say that Steven Legget has been somewhat measured in his approach to releasing music. The Newcastle native was behind the Four Hands moniker, with releases alongside iconic industrial figures Zoviet France on Signals From The North and the classic ‘Hizou’ on Claremont 56 back at the turn of the decade.
 
Now, this Firecracker Recordings release highlights a fully realised body of work, only hinted at by the aforementioned projects. Starting life as a performance in Turkish Baths located in Newcastle upon Tyne’s City Pool, one of the last remaining civil saunas in the country, Legget has created a textured, melodic and immersive eulogy to the woozy, slow motion, drug free endorphin rush of the bath house. Pieces from this performance, alongside field recordings collected on the islands of Paxos and Loutro, South Crete are reimagined as a luscious ambient music. Accompanied by cello and electronics with real attention paid to musicality, vast and gaseous cinematic compositions are submerged beneath waves and drenched in steam and condensation.

Enter the winking ship and go on a journey through the half-human-half-hyper-reality of David Goldberg. EMO Serialism is a sparkling macrocosm of breakbeat wizardry, technoid trance, robo emotion and versicolour ornamentation. The eponymous first track with its safe ground baseline is the cotton wool of the EP, the galaxy's aether and the joyful opening ceremony of this planetary feast. BaseElmnt64 rings out! The stars align and the tournament begins. Lightyears later, hobbling yet graceful Konradichtion 101 is the daring darling of the public, thus emerges victoriously. I made this jam on the Elektron Digitakt which I send back to the retailer lately. The Digitakt is a great sampler, but I realised I needed something bigger - the Octatrack was the only alternative, cant wait to finally get my hands on this monster! Imagine how much I am looking forward to the day he arrives since I already advertise the Octatrack in my artwork, without even using it before :)

It’s Belgium vs. Malta for the second split EP on Gated, with Datawave’s tough take on electro kicking off the A side and Sound Synthesis’s cosmic machine music on the B.

Both producers are currently making waves with numerous releases on labels like Fundamental and Nebulae, with their complementary yet distinct styles of electro brought together for the first time.

Perhaps the most obviously peaktime track, Datawave’s Pulsar sounds immense, with a wriggling bassline and cracking drums that’ll cut through on a system.

Breach Out takes things darker and deeper, with gnarly and hypnotic synths leading you on some tripped out journey into a dystopic future.

Sound Synthesis, meanwhile, lightens the mood with Lost in Orbit, but retains that sense of moving into the future. Except this time it’s somewhere beyond the stars.

That said, EP-closer MH System is the kind of classic 4am stomper every DJ needs, with a low-slung bassline and spaced-out samples guaranteed to keep the floor moving.
