Mui Mui, a Brooklyn based DJ, Promoter, Dancer, and Visual Designer, is the host of Navel Gaze Radio where she and her guests consistently explore the territory between genres. She is also one of the founders of Tecromancer, a collective of queer and femme DJs who host events around Brooklyn. Known for her open-mindedness as a selector, you might find her mixing from ballroom into batida, or from UK bass into raw, hard techno, without interrupting the crowds groove.

Notes on the Mix ///
"In this mix, I hope to express the arc of life itself through a selection of tracks that evoke a whole range of universal emotions- serenity, amusement, joy, tension, passion, desire, euphoria, and ultimately, contentment. Starting off the mix with a slow progression of cerebral tracks that reflect the more contemplative side of my life, I eventually found myself releasing the valve holding my emotions and I surely did not hold back with this mix! You’ll hear everything from dubby, ambient tracks to banging bass to shadowy techno, with some electro, footwork, and trance sprinkled in there. I felt a sort of release after recording it because DJing requires our full attention, active listening, and reflection. Music is a form of therapy to so many of us- it certainly is for me, and this was kind of like a journal entry, but in the form of a mix :"

Mui Mui (Cantonese for “little sister”), has been shaped by not only the Electronic artists she has revered since her adolescence - Aphex Twin, Autechre, Burial, and Moderat, to name a few, but also by both her background as a trained dancer and the 80s Italo/New Wave her parents raised her on. 

She hosts a biweekly show at Newtown Radio - “Navel Gaze Radio”, where she showcases local and international talent, and regularly organizes parties around Brooklyn. Her experiences as a dancer and a DJ have culminated in a balanced sensibility towards her craft, a versatile sound, and a keen ear for rhythm & groove. 

Her sets often oscillate between club-ready, danceable tracks and a carefully chosen selection of heady, thought provoking tracks but one thing is for certain, Mui Mui will always welcome you into her sanctuary of dance.
