For the second mix in our birthday series, Maracuya has invited AZUSA to step up to the plate.

Though fairly new to the DJing scene, AZUSA has been making the most of lockdown by launching events and record label Noire State.

With a focus on light and dark, the Noire State trio's most recent success was the launch of their first EP, featuring emerging UKG talent Oldboy and a remix from Longeez, which was featured by the likes of Vinyl Factory, Rinse FM and Balamii. The trio have also been running a successful mix series showcasing talent from all over the world, including the likes of Coco Bryce from Holland, Young Lychee in Berlin, Jucid based in Seoul, as well as local talents such as Swamp81's, Patrice.

If house is a feeling, then electro is an idea born in DIY ethos: though it has evolved from its original hip-hop and funk styles, it has always been created in bedrooms on whatever drum machine, sequencer or synth young producers can get their hands on. 

As a label owner, DJ, producer and performer, Cherriep has been keeping electro alive and prominent in his music, strongly influenced by Warp 9, Detroit In Effect, Drexciya, as well as the more ghetto sounds of DJ Assault or DJ Rashad. We’ve always had an admiration for producers whose sound pays respect to their influences and Cherriep is definitely on our radar, keeping it fly like in ‘You Wit It? ("we look good, we feel good, we got money, we got fame, let's go, let’s go!") 

The concept for this new release had its start in watching old episodes of “The New Dance Show”. Cherriep was inspired by the rawness of the show (it looks like it was filmed at a church or recreation center), by the outfits, the violent cut screens, the lack of editing, the lack of bras - and of course the dancers themselves.

Creating an energy that perfectly accents the trope heavy style of Foamek’s productions on his “Elysian Fields” project. Gonna be a great summer if this is any indication.

[AXTX009] Florian Kupfer - 4 Ever Ep

Early Reflex is the new label run by Turin-based producer and DJ, Alec Pace. Aiming to both push experimental club music boundaries forward and promote new artists, the first release, out on the 30th, of April is a 9-track compilation titled FLEX001 heavily influenced by leftfield techno and bass music sounds.

The release features critically acclaimed artists such as Loraine James, Sonia Calico, and Hence Therefore; electronic beats manglers like hmurd and Lorem; TT Label and All Centre founder and producer DJ P; and debuts from both Croatian N/OBE and Taiwanese Nanassus.

Touching multiple aspects of club music, yet evocative of a more subversive, darker atmosphere, FLEX001 will accompany listeners through a musical and sensory journey. The compilation breaks geographic borders and brings together a kaleidoscopic set of tracks that blend experimental sounds with the functional aim of getting dance floors light up, as the title suggests.

FLEX001 comes out as a strong, clear statement about what Early Reflex label is all about and what to expect from it in the future.

FLEX001 compilation is available on all platforms on Thursday 30th of April 2020.
