19.5.2016 - Monash Jazz Vocal Ensemble & World Music Ensemble

The Monash Jazz Guitar ensemble directed by Aria award winning guitarist Stephen Magnusson perform an eclectic repertoire drawing on a wide variety of musical styles from Bach to Björk, Ellington to Morricone, and also featuring original compositions from the ensemble members. A truly unique sounding ensemble — this group will change the way you think about guitar! The Monash University Classical Guitar Ensemble perform music both ancient and modern.

Created in 2009, the group aims to give its members experience in chamber music and an opportunity to develop performance skills. The ensemble ranges from first year to final year students and often investigates performance practices of a particular era when selecting and rehearsing its programs.

The group is directed by Dr Geoffrey Morris who is a performer of both modern and early instruments of the guitar family. Geoffrey has performed throughout Australia, Europe and America as well as in Japan. For more information please visit www.geoffreymorris.org

This is a composition performed by the Monash Sinfonia, conducted by Aaron Wyatt, with organists Thong Truong (Melbourne) and Stewart Smith (Perth).  Stuart James was the technican in Perth. This is a live recording at the Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash University, Clayton Campus, 18 August 2019.

The work is intended for remote internet hook up, where the organs are in different locations from each other. The lag (latency) experienced in this kind of networking is an intentional part of the score, it creates a fluttery, feathery effect as many instruments join together the make up the parts. The work uses a graphic notation that explores the qualities of drone and glissandi, and uses the Decibel ScorePlayer to enable real time score sharing over the internet.
