Ever since he can remember Tom Simonetti aka Mycrotom, a German with Italian roots and family ties in Canada, has been on the move.

Just eight years old the musician was already travelling the land with his mother..s rock band, gathering early stage experience with his quickly discovered talent for drumming. After seven years in Ontario his family returned to Germany where, after a number of further moves, he found a new home in the tranquil region of Allgaeu, between dreamy mountains and lakes.... He is a certified educator at business, and musican now.

I had the honor and pleasure of recording the artists' live performance using a four-channel process. The recording in Soundcloude is binaural, so it's perfect to listen to with headphones.

The different experimental musical methods of the two artists are a treat for the ears. Tom Simonetti made the gas boiler itself sound. He used Dadamachines - actuators controlled by MIDI signals that percussively worked the metal at various points on the gas boiler. The echo caused by the beats was an integral part of the musical event. 

Sascha Stadlmeier aka EMERGE supplemented the percussive sounds with flat sounds that were created by electronically processing noise recordings from the gas tank. The resulting sounds and noises interacted with the enormous echo of the boiler interior and formed a successful symbiosis. 

The interior of the boiler is over 80 meters high and measures 45 meters in diameter.

For the 89th installment in our Just For The Night series, selectors take you on their own journey through groove. Anything goes.

Next up, welcome Bazedjunkiii 👋 Addicted to electronic club music from the late 80s onwards and championing original DJ culture with all its vinyl, crate digging, whitelabel & dubplate culture, a classic setup of two turntables and a mixer is his weapon of choice. Influenced by the sound of Depeche Mode, Acid House and NuBeat alongside all Techno and Breakbeat derivatives to follow in the early 90s, he bought his first vinyl records back in 1990 and his extensive, eclectic 6000+ vinyl archive runs deep.

Being open to and interested in musical collaboration, he's also joined forces with long time friend and partner in creative crime Sascha Müller, more recently lauching their second project named Arbitrary Demons which is influenced by a shared love for NuBeat, Agreppo and late 80s / early 90s Techno with a first vinyl release forthcoming. He creates content and music reviews for his longtime blog platform nitestylez.de on a daily basis and works as street art / sticker culture documentarian too.

The mix in his words:
"My definition of groove is manifold. As a DJ who never solely focused on one specific genre over the course of 25+ years, but always has been interested in what I usually refer to as 'quality [electronic] music' in general I've experienced groove in many forms and iterations – in playing House Music and Disco, UK Garage, in rolling out percussive Techno sets as well as hitting dancefloors with DnB, Nu Skool Breaks or TripHop, Downtempo and Freestyle sets in small smoked out bar joints. Groove is a flow state, a natural combination and fusion of pre-existing elements and - from a DJ's point of view – a point in time at which tunes just fall into place with a set and selection driven by instinct, not thought, and muscle memory. Preferably for me in rather intimate locations, rolled out late at night with a set of two turntables, a box of vinyl records, proper monitoring and a basic mixer – no fuzz, just vibes and music. That's what this mix is all about."

Mongkong Music, founded around the millennium by the Beatznbytez crew, has been a driving force in multimedia events featuring DJs and live acts in deep Bavaria. Some of its active members include Mycrotom (also known as RHYTM POLICE), LeRoy (also part of RHYTM POLICE and Das Hobos), Messel (now LAZR LAZR), Bade (now Samurai), Volka Glück (performing as himself), and Nassforsch (now Funkroboter).

Among these artists, RHYTM POLICE stands out as one of the most active. Over the years, they have made their mark in electronic music, remixing bands such as Jeansteam, Verginia Jetzt, Louie Austin, Rainer von Vielen, Sandboy, PUNK TV, and the Chemical Brothers.

Leroy Schlimm and Mycrotom have taken their live performances across stages in Europe and Russia, even gracing Vienna’s Radio Station FM4. It’s a refreshing blend of rehearsal room atmosphere versus studio sterility.
