July Jellifies

Dragon aka Mongkorn Timkul is one of those artists who have been making 'Dubway' noise for more than a decade in Thailand. Fusing the history of sounds through dub, sound system culture, and bass, his output deals in endlessly fascinating genre mutations that continue to push electronic music forward. Dragon’s captivating rhythms and precise DJ Sets have always been at the heart of that, bridging the gap between hypnotic, emotional, dub techno, and heavy drum n’ bass.
And that’s the path he heads down on this week’s mix. Close to an hour of selection weaves a thread through all the sounds you’d find in his orbit - beat science and liquid melodies, UK inspired and mesmeric dub. Always stripped back but never devoid of character, this is physical yet meditative music that taps into that deep desire we all have inside : to move to the sound of pounding drums. Watch out for that curveball at around 30 minutes in!

The next drop on Livity Sound is the first collaboration from long-time label mainstays Hodge and Simo Cell. True to the styles the artists have individually marked out since first appearing on Livity Sound circa 2014-15, LIVITY050 presents fiercely imaginative, upfront club music across a spectrum of tempos. 

The supple, fluid approach to electronic music the two producers are separately known for feeds into a cohesive partnership, whether they’re turning their hand to dancehall-inspired, sub-100BPM heavy hitters or jagged, technicolour half-step tapestries.

MATJAMI: Acoustic-electronic soundscapes, deep beats, slow trance, empty space: meditation by listening and playing. 
Tip: Use good speakers or headphones to enjoy the rich, deep sounds and binaural recordings.

We three at MATJAMI (Marcel Bode, Tjalling de Leeuw, Mike de Leeuw) develop our sounds and grooves as we interact live, using our bronze, wooden and stringed instruments, (Balinese gamelan & gongs, bowls, Tibetan horns, Chinese guxing & gongs, Javanese kendang drums, timpani, beer bottles) with Native electronics, samples and live loops. The quality and the texture of our sounds are at least as important as the composition. 
We play our sessions 'on the fly', where one of us starts and the rest comes in at leisure... All you hear here was recorded live, with only some simple stereo and eq mixing afterwards.
We love to perform in open areas, theaters, level stage, and spaces with a special feel to them; a small audience is just as nice.
Recently we started collaborating with other audio-artists like VictorYibril, Fintan O'Brien and Phlip Smith (G.A.), Miraela, and Augenmerk, combining their very different music styles, field recordings and soundscapes with our beats and sounds.
