NEW REVIEW OF GO WILDCATS featured (not) in Pitchfork and (not) in Rolling Stone.
 
It could be just the bat of an eyelid, but it might just be an entirely different way to see the world. . . . . nevertheless, its an earful. 

Through multiple full length LPs, Go Wildcats presents us with little more than both thematically and tonally directionless sophomoric ramblings and cacophony.  Wielding deliberately opaque lyricism, which can at times allow for an oddly illuminating glance into an isolated if not overly mediated Gen Z angst—Go Wildcats finds its hat to hang. Admittedly, songwriter/instrumentalist/producer(barely) Daniel Nathan’s open-ended quips and overcast witticisms end up coming off as arrogantly self-conscious, esoteric, lazily entropic, and obnoxiously smug. It’s the effect given from such song and album titles as ‘Pussynomics: Flat Broke’, ‘Can’t Cum’, and ‘Money Is The Root Of All Finance’, that make one sigh from the country-mile wide reach for glibness and general rejection. 

Each of Go Wildcats’s efforts is haunted (and apparently so are we as listeners)with distractingly uneven pacing, often coming in, seemingly at random, with fully generated walls of unmixed muddled sound, which contrasts with the usual tininess of the tracks in eye-popping absurdity. The uneasy hunch I get is that the surely unintentional sonic quality alive within most of Go Wildcats’s library—or, the “recording every single song in one take at your buddy Kyle’s house because he’ll do it for free” factor—might just be a secretly not terrible ploy here, as it weighs heavily in the mixes, feeding bursts of raw noise that can only described as sounding like someone trying to turn over a stalled car engine while stuck inside an unending cave. 

All too readily, the often punk-short (1-3 minute)tracks appear to be so blinded by delight in their own sense of irony, like a pig in shit, that one would have to assume that the so-called “product” at play here does not have anything to do with actual sound at all, rather the product that Go Wildcats is selling in these releases is the tired but unrelenting jab at being subversive. Unfortunately, it’s a product that Go Wildcats ultimately and unceremoniously fails to produce efficiently.
