Barcelona based artist Monile has been firmly on our radar for some time. With her cropping up on more and more excellent lineup and releases it is only a matter of time before she starts flooding everybody else’s peripheral. What gives her such an edge is her adaptability and this can only come as a result of hard work, a thirst for music of all varieties, and the skills to show up when it is her time to shine. Being based in Barcelona gives her an immediate opportunity to do this on a regular basis and she will shortly be showing what she is capable of for them’s first Barcelona resident event at Atlantic Club. She will be taking her place alongside some of minimal’s biggest names while in Paris she will be moving in a slightly different avenue where she will be playing alongside Traumer. From her earliest days, Monile was drawn to electronic music through her older brother; a House, 90’s dance and techno record collector. Her roots originate from a combination of classic music she used to express playing piano, 90’s hip hop, Soul with a touch of funk and disco. On her quest for growth, she is always exploring different genres.
Her music reflects a rhythmic compassion for deep grooves and enchanting bass lines all-encompassing a wide range of electronic music styles from old School acid and Ghetto house to Detroit techno and Electro..

With her broad musical background, her productions and dj-sets incorporate the deep and dub-influenced sound she loves, whilst retaining the driving funk of her musical past. Her love for music is an endless journey to share with the world. Here, we present a recent mix of hers from Sophie Festival in Spain. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

It’s time to introduce the new DSSmix from one of the most sought-after emerging selectors in the industry in 2023, also recognized as one of the DJs to watch in 2024: Monile! 

Originally from Morocco and based in Barcelona, Spain, Monile joined us for our season finale alongside Satoshi Tomiie, delivering an incredible performance. Now, she delights us with this special mix for DSS. We’re grateful to have her on our series!

1. How and where was the mix recorded?

It was recorded in my house in Barcelona. 
I used a Vestax PCV-275 mixer and 2cd players and one turntable 

2. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix?

The main word is Eclecticism. I find it interesting mixing up different genres, making a story/journey of them. The important thing for me while choosing a record is that it induces some kind of emotion.
Regarding the construction of the mix (my mixes in general) I like to start smoothly, building up the rhythm and increasing the intensity progressively throughout the mix, ending with a dreamy part and some special closing track.

3. What are you up to next? Projects, ideas…

Few releases coming up (couple EPs, a pop rock remix, collaborations, VAs) and the lunch of my parties soon…
Really excited about that! 

4. Lastly, for you what is Dance, Shake, Swing!?

Reminds me of a track I really like : « Billy Nightmare - Dance, shake, swing » i put it in as a closing of the mix)
Also, simply makes me want to dance, shake and swing!!
I have to say the lineup curation has been full of quality groovers so far.
