arnald palmer is neo-surrealist spin on modern dance music. each song represents a shifting soundscape, drawing elements from various electronic sub-genres. the whole album is a perspective on modern house music; groovy, minimal and yet still uplifting, spiritual, and thought provoking. 

some tracks feel like two as they take you on a sonic journey. these complex, ephemeral arrangements are juxtaposed against digestible grooves that are unique and tantalizing.

I’ve been mixing for a few days (still very beginner) but only one way to get better, which is practice! This is the first set I’ve recorded though, and I wanted to make sure I took the feedback from family and friends into account while mixing.

First, I wanted to focus on music continuity and vibe. Yesterday I had too many disparate tracks. Even though I don't prepare for these, I can still cue the songs and listen to them to see if they match. 

Second, I wanted to let the tracks breathe. Yesterday I switched too quickly and didn't let you feel each song and enjoy them. So today I emphasized letting the tracks ride while also trying to let them mash together as opposed to just fading in and out. 

 I don't expect perfection in any mix so my goal as a beginner is always improve with each recorded set. I also want to be free to experiment with sounds as I like them so expect some wonky transitions or odd bits here and there. It's all an adventure. I hope you like this one!

On today's "Diggin' Around" I went a bit deeper than my last mix. If that was "poolside chillin" this the party that it turns into at night. I focused on utilizing loops, FX, and letting tracks blend together to create mashups that match specific sounds that I like.

On tonight's Diggin' Around I wanted to focus on feedback I've recently received from more advanced DJs. Namely, maintain the energy or build energy so I tried to increase intensity which is a bit challenging without fully knowing the songs, which is the whole point of Diggin' Around. 

I also received some advice to, while recording sets, maintain a specific key to have a more consistent sound. 

Let me know your thoughts! There's a very special mix around 14 minutes that sparked real joy in me and I hope it sparks joy for you too!

Holy moly I'm really stoked to be sharing this one with ya'll. I found some really crazy tracks that blended so well that I was able to blend three tracks at once on two occasions! This was a first for me, and I'll have a video of it up on my Instagram to show how I made it happen! 

I start to bring in a third track around 12-18mins. If you spot it, comment it out! I do it again later in the set, extra points if you spot that one too ;) 

The videos on my Instagram may help you locate the tracks that are playing, and I'm going to start including the setlists so I ensure that the artists retain their original credit

delia derbyshire is one of the matriarchs of electronic music. as a pioneer in she helped others understand and produce the first electronic music using recordings of live instruments replayed, pitched around, and looped on beat.

this is my ode to our electronic dalai lama, delia. In the spirit of the first electronic tracks that were entirely analog, i've limited myself to only a few samples and sounds. it was an artistic challenge and i'm very pleased with the results.
