It starts without rush. Natural sounds, soft pads, a diverse soundscape, open minded. Then the bass is coming in - straight and loud. We are invited by Jonas Saalbach, a well known Live Act and producer from Berlin. On his first album he combines melodies and dancefloor elements, hard bass lines and story telling instruments.

We’ll find tracks grown with time on the album. Some are based on classical techno styles like “Driven By Madness feat. MZ Sunday Luv“ and “Hammada“. Others are made for listening and dreaming like “Thinking Of You“ and “June Gloom“. You can feel the spirit of summer in every number, the desire for adventures in the nature, the energy of the sun. Jonas Saalbach presents his summary of a year full of travels and studio nights. His cooperations with Paul Klatt for example, are an important part of his work. Berlin is a big playground for him with a lot of inspiration every day and so the album is like a story board of life, a perfect starter for a new season, energetic and unstoppably creative.

Oliver Koletzki & Niko Schwind team up for a trip down the rabbit hole with “Black Walls”.

The title track fires off with a round of arpeggiated synths, a recurring pattern and focal point of the entire arrangement. Decked with sharp percussion and eerie synths, “Black Walls” unfolds like a downward spiral, in a mesmerizing and grave rhythm.

Reinier Zonneveld amplifies the depth of the track, by adding trance inducing layers. With the initial arpeggiated sequence at its core, Zonneveld infuses his own style of compact techno, reworking “Black Walls” into an entirely different rendition.

The closing track, although situated in the same deep and obscure registry, complements the raw power of the first two with the help of its smooth vocals. Paired with darker vocal pads and packing the same hypnotic rhythm, “My Vision” comes off as an imaginative melodic tech exploration.

Our first summer sounds coming direct from Spain. Welcome back David Granha on Einmusika with his “Inertia“ EP. An unique build up with bleeping elements and a sunshine melody in the back, full and bride. The vocals bringing an esoteric vibe and organic grooves making you feel the new vibes of the season. Next we are drifting into “Youniverse“ with it’s straight pads and piano. No melancholy mood anymore, only pumping beats and simmering energy in it. “Throwback“ is clear and cold in the beginning and it’s kind of a trade mark of David Granha’s dancefloor work. Since its launch in 2010, Soulfooled has been lovingly curated by Alex Niggemann and has steadily established itself as a crucial platform for exciting, fresh talent. The label’s focus is always on sonic innovation and searching out unfailingly original musical gems, and, in the process, developing its own distinctive brand of music.

With a deep love for classic analogue sounds, merged with the limitless palette of possibilities afforded by modern music-making technology, DJ/producer Kris Davies utilises his meticulous production skills and a flair for crafting distinctive, intricate soundscapes, to stamp an emotional ambient mark on all his tracks and mixes. Now, he is set for his debut single release with the ever-evolving Soulfooled family, with two exceptionally creative tracks. 

An instantly infectious, hip-swinging rhythmic backbone means “Aura” wastes no time before launching into a breath-taking display of creative genius, as it builds layers of melodic motifs, juxtaposed synth lines and flourishes to make it an irresistible musical delight – visualise a dynamic 121bpm ball of energy, pirouetting majestically around the dancefloor.

The subtle, percussive ‘Goodbye Lullaby’ with its wonderful hint of melancholic reflection, serves to create a distinctly different, but no less enthralling atmosphere, showing another side of Kris Davis’ standout inventiveness. Layered with a wondrous, seductive ebb and flow of melodic waves, ‘Goodbye Lullaby’ is a supremely emotive piece to round off this musical master class in style.

Since the release of his first ‘Closer’ EP on Subjekt Recordings in 2014, Kris has been steadily gaining respect on the underground circuit with his unique emotive style. His subsequent remix of Affect! ‘Akaria’ (Save Us), ‘Relentless’ (with Yost and released on Just Her’s Constant Circles label), an EP on Christian Loffler’s well-respected Young Alaska imprint, and recent outings on Crossfrontier Audio, Suara and Parquet Recording (amongst others), have continued to raise the creative bar and mark Kris Davis as an artist to keep an eye on. With summer residencies coming up for Avant Garde & We Concur in London and Paris, now is the time to check him out.

Out with their third EP of 2016, this August Monkey Safari will release 'Boris,' with remixes by Guy Mantzur and Victor Ruiz, showing the world once again that these guys aren't messing around. 'Boris' is the follow up to their successful mega-EP, 'Bernstein,' released in June, with remixes by John Digweed & Nick Muir and UNER. Their next four-track EP shows the brothers' more serious, grownup side, taking new risks with no vocals, utilizing empty spaces and slower buildups. Riding in with the power to deliver sunshine to world’s rainiest open-air events, Monkey Safari brings rays of light to whatever dance floors they cast their shimmering spell on. 

The past few years saw the brothers swinging to new trees, retiring their previous labels to focus on their new label 'Hommage.' It were the years of transformation for the German producers, developing and tailoring a sound suited perfectly for the unique club nuances while still keeping the core elements of melodic chords and grooves synonymous with the duos productions. 

During this time, Monkey Safari unveiled their remix for Marc Houle’s “Pepper” on Richie Hawtin’s label Minus and their hugely successful “Cranes” and “Walls“ EPs that presented opportunities for Monkey Safari to work with some exciting musicians, such as Wolf + Lamb and Kölsch, techno heavy weights Guy Gerber and Josh Wink, as well as one of dance music’s most iconic producers, Moby. 

Monkey Safari remixed a track for Moby & The Void Pacific Choir, returning the favor after Moby’s successful rework of the duo’s track “Walls” last year. Their next releases continued in the same fashion, featuring remixes from Paco Osuna, Chloé, John Digweed & Nick Muir, UNER, Guy Mantzur, Victor Ruiz and more, while signing tracks from amazing Blond:ish, legendary John Tajada, and others on their Hommage imprint. 

The duo’s efforts in the studio have transcended to their DJ sets with stand out shows at Time Warp and Awakenings Festival. On top of a heavy touring schedule at world renowned clubs and headlining slots at festivals, the duo released their album ‘Odyssey’. Monkey Safari produced the same kind of tracks for this album they were playing as they toured nightclubs and festivals around the world, rather than simply a listening album. 

In 2018 Monkey Safari carefully handpicked remixers they saw as most capable of continuing their vision for the album. The ‘Odyssey Remixes’ featured reworks of the original album tracks by the master himself, Carl Cox, international stars Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Musumeci, Tensnake and Reboot, studio geniuses Dubspeeka, Hannes Bieger, ROD, and Phil Moffa, as well as up-and-coming talent Avidus and Trivmph . 

Monkey Safari’s third album comes in perfect time for the summer sunshine of 2019. The duo follow up their last album, ‘Odyssey’, with this warm, inviting collection of music designed to brighten your day and complement the glorious sunny days that bless us during the summer. Sven and Lars learned some valuable lessons from their last long-player, and the new album ‘HI’ comes from a far more relaxed, easy-going place. An organic project that came together quite naturally, their third album sees the duo in high spirits ready to bring a large dose of positive vibes and emotional depth to the party. 

2020 and 2021 sees Monkey Safari moving closer to legendary brands Get Physical and Anjuna Deep, starting with a remix and a multitude of EPs on the labels. Watch out for more news soon! 

The German outfit has been on an incredible run of form with promising developments in all of their endeavors and exciting news still to come. Be it a fresh remix or EP drop, DJ set or party, Monkey Safari will be sure to touch all scopes of dance culture with no signs of deceleration on the horizon.
