Cubenx (Cesar Urbina) is one of many talented artists InFiné has introduced me to over the years. Last April Cesar and I both happened to be in Cannes for the film festival, so we decided to meet up. In what turned out to be a very drunken night out, I managed to convince him to let me have a go at remixing Mercurial, probably my favourite track of his.

Dimensions is a compilation series focused on bringing together unique artists and select tracks, which resonate with each other beyond just the sound of the music. It is a platform to create forward thinking releases on which artists in the XYZ family, and newcomers with shared values, come together to write their chapter of a collective story.

The second instalment of the Dimensions welcomes a set of diverse characters into the XYZ fold. The trio of groove-laden tracks nudges the listener towards the darker and colder months ahead, yet retains a warm fall aura as well. Progressive arrangements with hearty basslines and melodic flair are key pillars of the release, with both stalwarts of the scene and up-and-comers sharing their prowess for dancefloor-oriented material.

For the b-side we present an XYZ debutant, yet a name innately tied to the label family. Hicky & Kalo are one of the most exciting acts in Montreal’s rich underground scene, displaying their pristine quality behind the decks at the likes of Stereo, Piknic Electronic, and the PY1 Pyramid. Thomas & Camilo also exert excellence in the studio, running one of the most innovative rising labels in the industry - Plasiris Sonores. While releasing music from the likes of titans Hernan Cattaneo, Soul Button, and Darin Epsilon, Hicky & Kalo also dedicate themselves to unearthing special untapped talent from across the globe. The duo has been developing their musical repore since age 14, and seasoned friendship presents a stunning track - Rayo de Luz. A sumptuous fluttering melody fires into a hearty groove. Brimming with dancefloor quality and lighter emotional tones, Rayo de Luz is the perfect track to welcome Hicky & Kalo on the label.

German techno titan, Timo Maas joins forces with the Stripped Down label for a brand new single ‘Utopie’, backed with remixes from Digital 21 & Stefan Olsdal and Joe Metzenmacher & Borka & The Gang. Timo Maas has been a constant presence on the electronic music stage since the mid Nineties, rocketing to global super stardom off the back of his hugely popular ‘Dooms Night’ remix. Season’s on the white isle, a constant touring schedule and a raft of releases for some of the best labels followed, with music dropping on the likes of Perfecto, Bush, My Favorite Robot, Mobilee and of course his own Rockets and Ponies imprint. Now, the Hannover based artist joins forces with Claudio Ricci’s excellent Stripped Down Records for his latest musical offering which features vocals from Rottler. ‘Utopie’ is a stripped back and hypnotic affair that marries spoken word vocals over a sparse but enthralling soundtrack. Subtle sound design and understated drum programming make this a deep and discerning cut that is sure to bring new fans to both label and artist. The first of the remixes comes from Digital 21 & Stefan Olsdal , which sees the Spanish producer team up with the Placebo bassist for something rather special. Maas has in fact a long standing relationship with the band, having remixes previous Placebo singles and featured singer Brian Molko on his own productions. Here, Olsdal and Digital 21 deliver a mesmerising mix that fuses Batucada style rhythms with a powerfully cinematic string section, making this a a hugely dramatic opus. Finally, Joe Metzenmacher & Borka & The Gang turn in a dark edged and techy reworking that provides a perfect closer to this superb package. With more remixes of ‘Utopie’ to come later in the year, and Timo’s remix of Rodriquez Jr.’s ‘Blisss’ dropping on Mobilee soon, this is shaping up to be a super productive year for the musical maestro. Keeping the long history of introducing exciting (Dutch) talents to the scene alive, Manual Music welcomes Jelle van Leeuwen.

After a start in the Dutch rock circuit, Jelle now works at the Soundwise Studios in Amsterdam, where he is working together with big (pop) artists and for big TV productions during the day time. At night he's got time to explore his passion for electronic music.

'See The Glow' is his official debut release and includes three original productions, two of them featuring his own vocals. Give 'em a spin and be amazed!

Riding in with the power to deliver sunshine to world’s rainiest open-air events, Monkey Safari brings rays of light to whatever dance floors they cast their shimmering spell on. Developing and tailoring a sound suited perfectly for the unique club nuances while still keeping the core elements of melodic chords and grooves synonymous is the foundation of the duos productions.
Their track “Nava” soon develops it's indigenous touch with positive bongo rhythms and trilling panpipes. A meditative synth with an carefully calibrated delay complements the spiritual setting for a rapé ceremony with the groove of a long night's ritual dance.
Eerie Pads combined with a drifty stab rhythm and reverb lashing vocal stabs set the foundation for “Bob”. Adorned with jazzy chords this one is perfectly tailored for moody open airs, sunrises and sunsets.

Riding in with the power to deliver sunshine to world’s rainiest open-air events, Monkey Safari brings rays of light to whatever dance floors they cast their shimmering spell on. 

The past few years saw the brothers swinging to new trees, retiring their previous labels to focus on their new label 'Hommage.' It were the years of transformation for the German producers, developing and tailoring a sound suited perfectly for the unique club nuances while still keeping the core elements of melodic chords and grooves synonymous with the duos productions. 

During this time, Monkey Safari unveiled their remix for Marc Houle’s “Pepper” on Richie Hawtin’s label Minus and their hugely successful “Cranes” and “Walls“ EPs that presented opportunities for Monkey Safari to work with some exciting musicians, such as Wolf + Lamb and Kölsch, techno heavy weights Guy Gerber and Josh Wink, as well as one of dance music’s most iconic producers, Moby. 

Monkey Safari remixed a track for Moby & The Void Pacific Choir, returning the favor after Moby’s successful rework of the duo’s track “Walls” last year. Their next releases continued in the same fashion, featuring remixes from Paco Osuna, Chloé, John Digweed & Nick Muir, UNER, Guy Mantzur, Victor Ruiz and more, while signing tracks from amazing Blond:ish, legendary John Tajada, and others on their Hommage imprint. 

The duo’s efforts in the studio have transcended to their DJ sets with stand out shows at Time Warp and Awakenings Festival. On top of a heavy touring schedule at world renowned clubs and headlining slots at festivals, the duo released their album ‘Odyssey’. Monkey Safari produced the same kind of tracks for this album they were playing as they toured nightclubs and festivals around the world, rather than simply a listening album. 

In 2018 Monkey Safari carefully handpicked remixers they saw as most capable of continuing their vision for the album. The ‘Odyssey Remixes’ featured reworks of the original album tracks by the master himself, Carl Cox, international stars Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Musumeci, Tensnake and Reboot, studio geniuses Dubspeeka, Hannes Bieger, ROD, and Phil Moffa, as well as up-and-coming talent Avidus and Trivmph . 

Monkey Safari’s third album comes in perfect time for the summer sunshine of 2019. The duo follow up their last album, ‘Odyssey’, with this warm, inviting collection of music designed to brighten your day and complement the glorious sunny days that bless us during the summer. Sven and Lars learned some valuable lessons from their last long-player, and the new album ‘HI’ comes from a far more relaxed, easy-going place. An organic project that came together quite naturally, their third album sees the duo in high spirits ready to bring a large dose of positive vibes and emotional depth to the party. 

2020 and 2021 sees Monkey Safari moving closer to legendary brands Get Physical and Anjuna Deep, starting with a remix and a multitude of EPs on the labels. Watch out for more news soon! 

The German outfit has been on an incredible run of form with promising developments in all of their endeavors and exciting news still to come. Be it a fresh remix or EP drop, DJ set or party, Monkey Safari will be sure to touch all scopes of dance culture with no signs of deceleration on the horizon.
