Imagine Dragons just dropped a new EP with two new songs. Both are cool songs, but I decided to cover “Follow You” as it’s a bit easier acoustically! 

What makes it Spicy?

For the most part, I tried to stay true to the song. This led me to keep a very simple guitar feel, while holding down the chords but still continuing the bass note that is present throughout. 

As always, instead of using generic open chord voicings, I instead used more complex shapes that give the song more energy and life. An example would be the first chord, the Amin. New music Friday and Spicy Acoustic Covers. Name a more iconic duo.

This was one of the first songs I heard of the new music today. I really see this song getting some traction due to its simplicity and melody. Thus, I decided to make a spicy cover this morning! What makes it spicy?

I added a new baseline during the verses as the songs goes from iv to V. This gives the song a bit of energy to match the original recording which would not have been present with normal strumming. 

I also reharmonized the pre-chorus section. Instead of just going iv - V. I instead do the following: 

iv - V - IV - iii - ii - iii- IV

This just helps change up a simple progression and keeps some interest when it would otherwise get monotonous.

I performed a Kygo track just the other week, and you guys seemed to enjoy it! Here is my spicy acoustic version of his most recent song that dropped today actually! 

Generally, I stuck to the original arrangement of the song with my own spicy licks and phrases on the guitar. Let me know which was your favorite!

Hablas español? Well I don't! That's the sole reason that I only did the first two verses. My attempt at spanish would be quite tragic! 

Here is my spicy acoustic arrangement of The Jonas Brothers new song "X." I tried to stick pretty close to the original while incorporating some common ideas I love to throw in when doing a spicy cover. The chord sequence is kept intact mostly except the addition of a V+5#9 here and there.

"X" - Jonas Brothers, KAROL G | Spicy Acoustic Cover

This morning saw the release of this fire track by Surfaces ft. Elton John. Really enjoyed the laid-back yet moving vibe, so decided to make my own Spicy Cover! 

Here is what makes this live arrangement spicy!

While I mostly kept the original chord progression in tact, I did add a lot of dominant chords to give it that extra spice we all want. For example, midway through the first chorus, instead of going straight to F#, I instead went A#m7 - G#min7 - F#. This acts as a passive 2-5 which makes it really catch the ear.

I also did a few Dominant b9's here and there. Specifically in the second chorus, I played C#maj7 - C#7b9 - F#.

Before the Elton John verse, I played a laid-back, behind-the-beat instrumental which connected the two parts of the song well! 

Along with all of this, I added a few licks here and there to make it all come together!

Similar vibes to "All of Me"  with a more produced vibe. I see this song being the next big hit by John Legend, so I had to make my own spicy cover! 

Here's what makes it spicy! 

Reharmonized the progression. Instead of going I - I/iii, I instead made it a iii instead to give it the full minor feel! This helps the song pop a bit more to my ears, so I decided to go with it! 

I also added a few licks here and there to give the song some color!

New intro! After playing around with the original, I realized a solo acoustic version of the song needed its own intro! Decided to keep the chord structure by add a few different voicing for the chords! 

In the same vain, while I decided to keep the original chord structure in tack, I instead played the 9 and 2 of each chord. Instead of F#min, I instead played F#minSus4 or F#min9 and such!

LANY's new album dropped today after a few single releases this past month. It is a very different album from what I was expecting, but still easy to listen to as any LANY song is. Here is my favorite song from the album, "i still talk to jesus."

Honestly, I didn't really implement anything spicy into this song. The lyrics are so powerful on their own that I didn't want to take anything away from them. 

Apart from that, I did avoid standard voicings of my chords. Instead of a generic C, I instead played a Cadd2, Cmaj9 and so on. Same goes with all the chords in this arrangement!

In a week of Justin Bieber, Lauv and so many other huge artists, I decided to play a new song by an artist I have yet to know much about! This is the new song, "lie to me" by Tate McRae and Ali Gatie. It has so much passion in the vocals and lyrics which really caught my eye.

Shawn Mendes finally dropped the full length album, “Wonder” and it has not disappointed thus far! Next to the banger, “Teach Me How to Love You,” this song, “24 Hours has been on repeat all morning. I decided to make my own cover of it! 

What makes it Spicy?

Throughout several points in the song, I added some licks and phrases to give it my own feel. For example, midway through the first verse, I do a few chord voicings similar to an R&B vibe to spice it up. Also, after the second verse, I added an interlude to go into the bridge a bit more smoothly.

2nd album in a few months? I honestly had no idea Taylor was dropping new music until this morning when I was searching for songs to cover. As always, when I see new music by her, I cover it! Here is my spicy cover of “no body, no crime.”

What makes it Spicy?

This is the first song I have ever played by Why Don’t We, and it is certainly a banger. On a slow morning for new music, other than hip hop, I found this gem and immediately decided to play it. Here is my own arrangement of the song! 

What makes it Spicy?

The main section of this song to me was the guitar line that began in the intro and played throughout most of the song. I knew I had to incorporate this as much as possible which was pretty challenging to play and sing it, but I gave it my best go. This avoided the mundane strumming that is so easy to get lost in.

I’m a bit late on this cover, but with a lack of new songs, I figured I’d do my second favorite song from ZAYN’s new album that dropped last week. Here is my spicy cover of “Sweat.”

What makes it Spicy?

For the most part, I tried to stay true to the song. This led me to keep a very simple guitar feel, while holding down the chords but still continuing the bass note that is present throughout. 

I substituted the drum fill with a guitar fill leading into the Chorus. I think it fits it pretty nicely!
