The wintertime is back in germany and christmas is very close. This time reminds us to be with family and friends as well as it stands for giving each other more attention and love. On every Advent Sunday, Kompakt.fm drops an exclusive mixtape from one of our artist affiliates - the fourth and final entry comes from none other than Gregor Schwellenbach, the Cologne-based multi-instrumentalist, composer and libertine who served as the creative force behind the aptly titled "Gregor Schwellenbach Spielt 20 Jahre Kompakt" full-length, one of Kompakt's more off-beat releases in 2013 (and probably the entire label history). For this mixtape - a first for the classically trained musician - Gregor brews up quite an extraordinary concoction that draws from backgrounds as diverse as classical music, avantgardist textures, electro-acoustic tape splicing and urban clubbing. Discover the unruly personal canon of a unique musical mind that counts both Wolfgang Voigt and Karlheinz Stockhausen among his favorites, filtered by the hazy eroticism of Arthur Russell or the cartoonish sonic violence of Pierre Henry.

Auch wenn der Künstler der 42. Ausgabe unseres Podcasts schon ein paar Jahre mit dem Auflegen verbringt, ist es doch berechtigt, ihn „Newcomer“ zu nennen – in der positivsten Bedeutung dieses Wortes. Gerade mal ein Jahr ist es her, dass www.soundcloud.com/weisser-rabe sein erstes reines Electro-Set auf Soundcloud hochlud. Das Echo war gewaltig – auch wir wurden auf ihn aufmerksam und verfolgen seinen Aufstieg seit dem. 

Momentan weilt der gebürtige Kölner studiumsbedingt im fernen Boston, doch ließ er es sich nicht nehmen für uns eine ganz neue musikalische Seite an sich auszuprobieren und diese in ein Set zu gießen. Das freut uns ganz besonders, denn dieser Schritt in eine  gleichzeitig deepere wie auch clubbigere Richtung ist für uns deutlich einer nach vorne. Zugleich beweist es auch, dass Weisser Rabe ein breites Spektrum zu bieten hat, was für einen DJ ja nun auch nicht das Verkehrteste ist.

WINTER is the coldest season of the year, caused by the fact that the hemisphere is being oriented away from the sun. It's the time when days get shorter, temperatures decrease and it's getting colder. MELANCHOLIA is a feeling of sadness and depression. 
For me, the combination of those two things have something magical and mysterious.

breakable love { zerbrechliche liebe }
Bevor ich euch erzähle wie es zu diesem Set kam, möchte ich all den Künstlern danken für ihre Werke die sie mir käuflich als auch „for free“ zu Verfügung gestellt haben. Ohne ihre Leidenschaft zur Musik wäre kein Track auf diesem Set möglich gewesen – DANKE!
Aber nun ein paar Worte zu diesem Set. Entstanden ist es eigentlich durch eine Nachricht hier bei Soundcloud und der Frage, ob ich nicht mal ein Set gestalten könnte, dass sich um das Ende einer Beziehung und den Start in etwas Neues darstellt. Ich war von diesem Thema sofort angetan. Doch dann geht es eigentlich erst los. Welche Tracks sind passen und wie baue ich das Set überhaupt auf?
Ein paar der Künstler und der Tracks waren mir sofort klar. Andere musste ich erst suchen und wieder andere vielen mir zufällig in die Hände. Doch warum diese Tracks und diese Reihenfolge. Ich wollte von Beginn an nicht unbedingt eine traurige Stimmung vermitteln, daher habe ich mich für ein „seichtes Ausklingen“ einer Beziehung entschlossen. Oft ist das Ende einer Beziehung ein schleichender Prozess. Man lebt sich nach und nach auseinander und ehe man es genau bemerkt lebt man nur noch nebeneinander her und die Liebe ist ein Teil der Vergangenheit…
Was danach folgt ist unterschiedlich – manchmal eine Zeit des Auf und Ab, auf der schnellen Suche nach einem neuen Partner – manchmal aber auch eine Zeit in der man einfach die Freiheit genießt, die man nun, da man wieder allein und auf sich selbst gestellt ist auslebt. Wie auch immer man die Zeit nach einer Beziehung  gestaltet, im Nachhinein betrachtet  war es die Zeit vor der nächsten Beziehung mit all ihren Höhen und Tiefen …

Aber nun genug geredet – jetzt lasse ich die Musik sprechen ☺ Also Musik an und genießt die Reise. Ich hoffe euch gefällt mein neustes Set!
