Raik feat. Henri "Hold Me E.P." (Golden City Sounds 002)

The double A-side EP, Hold Me, is Golden City Boy Raik's debut release. Raik founded the Hamburg-based label, Golden City Sounds, with German house legends Boris Dlugosch and Isi Tüfekci (otherwise known as one half of Digitalism) in March 2013. Hold Me is the label's third release, following Dlugosch's Look Around You single, featuring Roísín Murphy (Moloko), and Polargeist + Kruse + Nuernberg's Good Times, a deep house, feel-good anthem of the summer.

For the first track, Hold Me, Raik teamed up with Henri aka Henrietta Tiefenthaler, producer, DJ and also singer in the psychedelic Krautrock band Thrillionaire. With her romantic, dystopian lyrics, Henri's hypnotic vocal delivery gives an emotional depth to this slice of shimmery, pop-electronica.

The second track, La Musique, is a euphoric club tune, a perfect counterbalance to the more rhapsodic melancholia of Hold Me. With its hooky synth line, infectious groove, and sexy French spoken word vocal, its arrangement is flawless and guaranteed to suck you into its retro-futuristic world.

This long-awaited EP will be sure to deliver on the expectation.

When music magicians come together the inevitable result is magic and that's exactly what 'Chasing Thoughts' brings you. Steyoyoke's latest three track EP comprises of one original and two remixes. It features a collaboration from Talul and label icon Soul Button, with remix duties falling to Tony Casanova and Sasch. 

The title track 'Chasing Thoughts' instantly draws you in and carries you along a thrumming heart beat style bass line. It's undeniably uplifting, with its beautiful melodies and playful synths that slip and slide all over you. 'Chasing Thoughts' is smooth and intensely hypnotic. 

Tony Casanova chooses a healthy dose of tech house to infuse with his version of 'Chasing Thoughts'. His flavours are 100% dirty, with crisp clean edges and a splash of delicious dub, making it infectious to the ear. 

The final track on the EP is Sasch's remix, which takes 'Chasing Thoughts' down a path way full of pure deep disco sounds. Possessing 80's style riffs, phat house grooves and not one but two bassline drops, it is a definite dance floor pleaser.

Following the debut of his track 'Marta' a couple of months ago on our 'Miami WMC 2016' Sampler, Armen Miran is back to showcase his latest 'Lost Found EP'.

The EP includes two eclectic original tracks named 'Lost Found' & 'Jojo In The Stars'. Both are organically produced in slow-motion with ethnically charged drum patterns, melodies and vocals. 

On remix duties, first up, we welcome back Hraach who delivers a Slow remake  of 'Jojo In The Stars'. Known for his keyboard work, Hraach wrote and composed his own melodies and injected a little more ethnicity, nostalgia and drama into his timeless rendition. 

Last but certainly not least, we are also happy to welcome back Robot Needs Oil to the label who delivers a groovy, tribalistic and four to the floor club version of 'Jojo In The Stars' that's destined for the late night hours.

Shunus is a solo project by UK producer Shaun Lawes. With his first LP effort, Rainburn, he is pushing his sound forward with unique haunting vocals and hypnotic beats.

As always with the Cairo based artist, the sound design is precise and the sounds used, diverse. Field recordings and acoustic instruments merge seamlessly to build a refined listening experience throughout.

Out of the 8 tracks, 7 feature Shunus own vocals and lyrics. With his lyrics, he discusses ideas of tranquility and acceptance as a cure to the inner battles happening within. Remaining metaphorical, the lyrics are often used as an ambience rather than an upfront lead vocal as used in pop or rock'n ‘roll.

Sleepwalking opens up the album with a mellow and organic mood. The piece slowly evolves from the dreamy ambience to a lovely chords progression supporting the vocal lines.

The song Tougher Times makes an exception to the ambience vocals with catchy and modern pop ones. With its melancholic guitar arpeggio, the song evolves from a laid-back ballad during the verse to a super groovy drop. Being the only downtempo track of Rainburn, this contrasted piece has everything to be a hit on the dancefloor.

Rainburn is one for the percussions lovers. Very much following the features of modern Afro-House, the track is positive and is just about euphoric. The marimba grooves and repetitive vocals lines take root in the heads and you might catch yourself singing along in no time.

Primal presents an organic and noisy soundscape. The tracks is clearly defined by Shunus' trademark electronic, distant and almost shamanic vocals. Oriental strings reveal their harmonies during the energetic and mighty instrumental drop. Synth lovers will also not be left on the side of the road as these appear discreetly to temper the rather dark atmosphere of Primal.

Never Felt has this circus vibe straight from the beginning. Reminiscent of early 60's garage bands, the soundscape is resolutely acid and groovy. Shunus' vocals are tastefully freakish and invites to go along and dive deep into the trip.

When You Were Young is a pathway between cultures; percussions from South America meet with eastern instruments and melodies.

With hypnotic arps and odd sounds, Endless stands out as a distinctive yet accessible and danceable track. Lots of sound effects and organic texture complement the otherwise all-electronic beat.

This Is The End is the only ambient piece of the album. Featuring ethereal pads and dreamy piano sounds as well as repetitive trance-inducing guitar riff, this complex sound field is made to get lost into.

While most of the album remains dancefloor friendly, the precise sound design and organic textures make it mandatory to have multiple listens with headphones on.

DJ for various occasions till the age of 25, I always loved electro music till my life changed and turned to be  more demanding, leading me to stop mixing . However, I stayed attentive to the world of electronic music, and more specifically to the « lounge » and « deep house » style played at the Buddha Bar, which remains for me  a source of inspiration.  
Allowing me to be in  direct contact with thousand of people, the 2018  and 2019 technoparades gave me the opportunity  and motivation to go back to the turntables, while trigerring my return into the electro-music world. I was then able to mix sounds accumulated for years, turning the whole thing into an incredible experience.  I now produce my own pieces of Deep House,  Organic House, Ethno Deep House, Tech House, and Lounge, using tones reminiscent of  the Middle and Far East, Eastern Europe and India.  I am just at the beginning of a new and fascinating adventure. Thank you for listening, repost...likes...
