The next EP of our Russian ambassador, Disco Morato (SXDNS147), will be released on his own label, the promising and darkness-devoted Maxima Culpa Records, which is also co-managed by Gegen Mann, another vital Russian artist. "Tredici", the seventh adventure of the imprint, features two bouncing originals and an almighty remix by Spanish producer WLDV. On all three themes, a dark-futuristic atmosphere prevails, turning the EP a must-have for the lovers of Dark Disco/Indie Dance.   

In many cultures, "tredici" ("thirteen" in Italian) is considered an unlucky number. The fear of the number 13 is called triskaidekaphobia, by the way. In others – China, France and Italy, for instance –, it represents luck. Well, we are lucky for having the opportunity of reviewing such a superb tune, and we believe that for Disco Morato it will bring lots of good fortune. Despite the heavy and obscure mood of the title track, the groove is intense, leaving no room for gloominess or bad vibes. "Tredici" is that kind of piece that makes you close your eyes and deliver yourself to its deepness. A piece of work with soul and personality committed to triggering on you that kind of happiness that only (good) music is capable of.

The dynamic duo of ROTCIV and Das Komplex are back on Luv Shack Records to finish off what they started with the "Magic Silk #1 EP" in 2019.
Das Komplex' "Jak Mozna Nie Mówic O Pesymizmie" (wich translates to "how can you not speak about pessimism") is boasting with psychedelic effects, polish spoken words and a plethora of funky disco tropes, all cumlinating in a 10 minute super disco jam.
Hot on the heels come two ROTCIV remixes of Das Komplex' "Silk" from the first Magic Silk EP. The "Electric Dub" is a broken electro workout with a tight industrial beat, lush synth patterns, dubbed out percussions and an array of weird FX. The "Transmix" comes with a driving 4tothefloor groove and an italo-esqe synth bassline at the heart of the mix, while still maintaining the pittoresqe atmosphere of the original with layers of heavily mangled effects.
On "Space Explore", ROTCIV constructs a complex slow burner, setting up an eerie atmosphere of digital soundbytes, vocal snippets, ghostly strings and fat synth pads on top of a cosmic disco groove.
Lastly, Das Komplex remixes "Your Highness", adding a classic disco groove with lots of analog percussion, funky guitars and a quirky synth bass-sequence, creating instant euro-disco nostalgia.

Continuing further down the Mexico City wormhole, this time Muy Muy Limited imprint welcomes its dear friend and old flat mate, Max Jones. Known equally for his solo work as well as 1/2 of the Los Mekanikos, we joining him a board of this train that hopefully takes us far away from this dystopian reality.
This is charity where label and involved artists supporting  "Divas nos Queremos", trying to help to this organisation and trans artists in Latin America who have been affected by Covid19.

This is an edit I have meant to do for ages but never quite managed to finish in a way that both got me satisfied while respecting the vibe and the 'craziness' of the original track. Then, after quite a lot of work and endless revisions I seem to have nailed it at last.

DDAA is a french indie experimental band that released their first material in 1979.

This particular track is a live version recorded at a venue called l'Ubu in Rennes (France) in 1983 and later distributed on tape. The original tape is really hard to find but you can still listen to it on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jD5CBeGrWQ (contrary to what is indicated it is *not* from the "Live at Acapulco" release!)

The beginning of 2021 sees electronic trailblazers Nothing Is Real showcase the truly global nature of their expansive sound and vision by profiling five Mexican artists on a compilation EP entitled ‘Made in Mexico’. Featuring a diversity of tracks from friends and collaborators Mufti, Montessori, Javier Martinez & Ulises Arrieta, Collossio & Cabizbajo and Tapia, this release demonstrates the deep roots that Nothing Is Real have made within the South American continent, as they put the talents of five swiftly rising Mexican producers on display.

Mufti opens the compilation with “Fields of Passion”, a slow burner that builds on the iconic new wave influences that Nothing Is Real are now known for. Throbbing basslines roll underneath shimmering synths that echo through a cavernous atmosphere, creating a sonic space in which the remainder of the EP flourishes beautifully. Following this up with elegance, Montessori taps the talents of Gael Gael for a collaborative venture, “Avant Garden”. As gentle increases in momentum build to a dramatic climax, the track serves as a prime example of the hypnotic rhythms and emotive melodies that Nothing Is Real are known for. Reaching the mid-point of the compilation, the duo of Javier Martinez & Ulises Arrieta keep the pace high with a six-minute jam that blends circular synth patterns, tribal drum fills and a solid, rolling 4/4 beat, before Collosio & Cabizbajo take a detour into electro with “Rapto”. On this track, the pair create something beautifully spooky out of futuristic FX and creative sonic manipulations that float above a gloriously resonant synth bass. Taking subtle cues from both Vangelis and vaporwave, this one is an impressive demonstration of how far the Nothing Is Real sound can reach. Closing the compilation with “Orbit”, a laudable display of musicality, Tapia treats us to a two-minute instrumental intro before a rapturous beat enters the mix.
