Eclipse: PALEMAN

— Artist Intro —

Raised in Manchester studying at Jazz at Chethams School of Music and Trinity College of Music, Paleman has rapidly risen through the ranks since emerging in 2012 from within the UKs vibrant post-dubstep scene.
He has quickly become one of the most respected DJs and producers with a view to innovation and experimentation. Multiple releases on Swamp81 started his career aged 18 followed by a collaboration with UK mercury prize jazz nominees Polar Bear in 2014 before he launched his own white label series in 2016 "PLMN". Paleman now has a curated solo show "Hyphal Networks" on Rinse FM, exploring experimental techno sounds and has debuted his textural electronic percussion based live show at Manchester International festival. Recently, four self releases under his belt on his imprint PLMN Records and EPs in 2018 and 2019 with Berlin based Zehnin Records and Nonplus Records, Paleman seems to be on an ever increasing upwards curve, shifting his sound and exploring new realms of experimental modular driven techno that defies convention.
Paleman’s knack for percussive, textural and elegantly minimal dance floor music has taken him around the world from Tresor in Berlin and across the UK to Australia, India and Canada all to showcase his unique DJing style and huge array of unreleased experiments. With studies in classical music and jazz his drumming skills and influences take note from all four corners of the experimental musical world, and also the dystopian future of hardware based machine music as well as experimental early electronics. Paleman seems to constantly be pushing boundaries in both his DJ and live sets and also his productions - 2020 seems set to reveal even more of the experienced producer.

For our 29th podcast we welcome Paracusia, a much enjoyed and followed producer here at Initiate. 

Paracusia is a dark ambient, half-time drum and bass producer based in the UK. His music uniquely melts these three genres together to create something new, different and interesting. 

For this podcast he put together a special mix for us, made up of his exclusive productions. 

Here we happily take a break from strictly ambient music to embrace other forms of immersive sound that were always an integral part of the events that inspired these podcasts.

Yin Yang Audio is the essence of experimentation. Coming from various genres, I attempt to carve out a sound with no genre restrictions. the project began to take shape with the release 'From the void' on Onset Audio where the idea was to break sonic barriers- grab themes from techno, deep dnb, indusrial, ambient and the experimental melt it into a crucible and see what kinds of awesome shapes come about.

Ending the year with an awesome mix by @FlxK1, a Berlin-based DJ, producer, and label honcho. His perspective has been a big inspiration in the music scene since the late '90s, from killer work on various labels to unforgettable performances.

This mix is a shout-out to 25 years of Hidden Hawaii and 10 years of Nullpunkt Recordings. Some of it you could hear at our London party in August 2023. Big thanks to Felix for this mix, and here's to many more awesome releases in the future.

This winter, Monochrome is offering each month to one or several artists to discover their influences and inspirations through a forty-five minute to two hour recording. These three recordings will focus on percussive rhythms between Ambient, Deep Techno and Drum & Bass.

Artist biography :
Pjenné (Penny O’Brien) is a familiar name in the Melbourne dance community. Through her imaginative club sets and weekly show on Melbourne’s PBSfm Radio, she has established herself as a critical fixture in the local scene. Though her sets may vary wildly, Pjenné has crafted a style that is distinctly her own - atmospheric whilst bass-heavy, it’s sure to make you want to move.
The after-hours see her navigating through all realms of dance music - energetic sets that are heavily driven by the psychedelic and progressive sounds of the 90s and beyond. Equally adept at playing small, sweaty basements as she is festival stages, Pjenné has made multiple appearances at the highly acclaimed Inner Varnika, Strawberry Fields, Golden Plains and Boiler Room.
Away from the dancefloor, Pjenné finds a sanctuary inside the radio booth. Her show Passing Notes further explores her fascination with the diversity of electronic music, as well as the community it fosters. The airwaves afford her the opportunity to showcase sounds a little more unorthodox. From early evening soundscapes, downtempo and emotional synth pop, to experimental club music, Passing Notes provides a crucial connection from club to community, also playing host to inspiring local and international talent. 
Pjenné’s passion for what she does is pervasive. Be it in the studio or on the dancefloor, the same beliefs shine through: the importance of community, of supporting each other and the necessity of a damn good dance.

Artist biography :
Co-founder of the Hard Love Motor Love label and the De la je l'espère collective, Trois-Quarts Taxi System is a Parisian producer and DJ whose work falls somewhere between bass music, jungle and deep techno.
 
Whether live or in a DJ set, his singular approach to music allows him to navigate between dark sounds with complex rhythms and hypnotic melodies accompanied by organic textures. He takes us into his world, releasing tracks on labels such as Matière, Typeless, Bait and Blue Night Jungle, where he never ceases to surprise us with his unstructured rhythms and contemplative layers drawing on idm, electronica, trip-hop, break and ambient.
