Artist biography :
Yin Yang Audio is the essence of experimentation. Coming from various genres, I attempt to carve out a sound with no genre restrictions. the project began to take shape with the release 'From the void' on Onset Audio where the idea was to break sonic barriers- grab themes from techno, deep dnb, indusrial, ambient and the experimental melt it into a crucible and see what kinds of awesome shapes come about.

This winter, Monochrome is offering each month to one or several artists to discover their influences and inspirations through a forty-five minute to two hour recording. These three recordings will focus on percussive rhythms between Ambient, Deep Techno and Drum & Bass.

Artist biography :
Pjenné (Penny O’Brien) is a familiar name in the Melbourne dance community. Through her imaginative club sets and weekly show on Melbourne’s PBSfm Radio, she has established herself as a critical fixture in the local scene. Though her sets may vary wildly, Pjenné has crafted a style that is distinctly her own - atmospheric whilst bass-heavy, it’s sure to make you want to move.
The after-hours see her navigating through all realms of dance music - energetic sets that are heavily driven by the psychedelic and progressive sounds of the 90s and beyond. Equally adept at playing small, sweaty basements as she is festival stages, Pjenné has made multiple appearances at the highly acclaimed Inner Varnika, Strawberry Fields, Golden Plains and Boiler Room.
Away from the dancefloor, Pjenné finds a sanctuary inside the radio booth. Her show Passing Notes further explores her fascination with the diversity of electronic music, as well as the community it fosters. The airwaves afford her the opportunity to showcase sounds a little more unorthodox. From early evening soundscapes, downtempo and emotional synth pop, to experimental club music, Passing Notes provides a crucial connection from club to community, also playing host to inspiring local and international talent. 
Pjenné’s passion for what she does is pervasive. Be it in the studio or on the dancefloor, the same beliefs shine through: the importance of community, of supporting each other and the necessity of a damn good dance.

For the sixteenth episode of our Herbarium mix series, we invited Endurance (@joshua-stefane), the label owner of @muzaneditions. He is a master when it comes to exquisit ambient journeys and therefore we are very happy to feature one of his beautifully told stories. 

For this mix he chose Chrysanthemum. Here is why:
I chose the chrysanthemum as the flower for this mix - specifically the Chrysanthemum / morifolium hybrid species, which originated in China and is also popular in Japan. Aesthetically, I think it is one of the most beautiful flowers, with its multitude of florets radiating from the center, or cascading down like willow branches, depending on the type. I love how such flowers can feel so complex and deep, simply through the arrangement of similar elements - and that is something that guided this mix. Using tracks from artists I love, old sound effects records from the 60s and 70s, and my own live improvisations and field recordings, I tried to layer similar or repeating elements over each other to create a complex and cohesive whole. Thank you for listening.

About Endurance:
Endurance is the ambient project of Canadian-born Joshua Stefane. Using modular synthesizers, field recordings, and cassette tapes, Endurance’s sound has become increasing minimal and tonally-focused over the years, employing a minimum of elements to create a maximum of expressiveness. In addition to releasing from labels such as Constellation Tatsu and Mystery Circles, Endurance also curates the Japan-based tape label Muzan Editions. He is part of the organizing team for Moment, a techno festival in Nara. He has appeared at numerous high-profile events such as Kyoto’s Star Festival, Moment, and Rural, and has performed with artists such as Neel, Peter van Hoesen, and Wata Igarashi.

Iffie is a dj and project currator based in Athens.
Her sound explores dark and deep elements with an affinity for modern techno. She loves making her sets as cohesive as possible, intertwining various genres by leaving no room for sudden transitions.
She has established her own Podcast Series called Into The Abyss.

Artist biography :
Co-founder of the Hard Love Motor Love label and the De la je l'espère collective, Trois-Quarts Taxi System is a Parisian producer and DJ whose work falls somewhere between bass music, jungle and deep techno.
 
Whether live or in a DJ set, his singular approach to music allows him to navigate between dark sounds with complex rhythms and hypnotic melodies accompanied by organic textures. He takes us into his world, releasing tracks on labels such as Matière, Typeless, Bait and Blue Night Jungle, where he never ceases to surprise us with his unstructured rhythms and contemplative layers drawing on idm, electronica, trip-hop, break and ambient.
