Monument Festival 2021: Monodogue

Monodogue is a Norwegian DJ and producer. He is co-founder of the Physical Pattern label and co-label manager of the great Monument podcast. Monument is connecting people through Techno music.  That's exactly the same philosophy behind this podcast and what inspires me within music. So I'm very glad and honored to have Monodogue on the show. And he was very happy to create an exclusive mix for us.

An homage to Bernard Parmegiani (27 October 1927 - 22 November 2013), one of my big heroes and influences. The material for this track is his work 'Indicatif - Aéroport Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle' which was used as its announcement signal from 1971-2005.  R.I.P.

This is a live recording, captured at Ego club in Düsseldorf, June 5 1999.  The music has been created with a self written step sequencer, the PX-18, controlling  a basic sample player and effects engine, all done in MaxMSP, running on a Powerbook G3. The step sequencer had some unique features, e.g. the ability to switch patterns independently in each track, which later became an important part of a certain music software.

I found the recording on a backup disk today. It has not been edited or mastered. During the first 20 minutes of the set, and before the 'encore' the Monolake CD 'Gobi' is playing in the background.

"Normally I know that high expectations kill the vibe, so I always try to walk my way open minded and don’t expect anything special from the future, but this time I couldn’t help it. When the Robot told me that she wanted me to play the sunrise set and that we will be connected with the Mayan Warrior soundsystem, I could feel it already in Berlin a full three weeks before… Then when I finally took the bus over to Robot Heart it was even better than in my craziest expectations. This gig was by far the most emotional gig I have ever played. All I can say is thank you, I am even more happy now to be born on this weird planet which can be really beautiful sometimes, when you give it  chance to be free. Thank you you for dancing with me and giving me so much Love. So here is my try to give something back.

The human body is the most highly engineered object in existence, a machine of uncountable parts and unfathomable function. Its workings have served as inspiration for all of humanity's greatest inventions. This work is an homage to the two most amazing mechanisms in that machine: the human eye and hand. The head is a 16 foot camera obscura demonstrating the ray optics principals underlying the spherical lensed eye humans posses and the hands are actuated mimicking the tendons and bones of the body. Together they represent what separates life from the rest of the universe, the ability to observe the world around us and manifest change in that world.

1987년 이태리의 Sardinia 섬에서 태어난 Claudio PRC는, 아방가르드와 앰비언트 음악을 적극 수용한 딥테크노를 선보이는 특별한 아티스트이다. 초기 애시드 음악의 최면적인 사운드와 덥(dub)으로부터 파생된 깊은 울림들은 그의 음악에 큰 영향을 미쳤으며, 2006년부터 DJ 및 프로듀서로 활동하며 Prologue, Semantica 등 현대의 가장 저명한 딥테크노 레이블들에서 자신의 작품들을 발표해왔다. Claudio는 특히 그의 파트너인 Ness와 함께 진행해온 TGP(The Gods Planet) 프로젝트를 통해 수많은 작품들을 발표하였으며, 또한 재능있는 아티스트들의 새로운 음악들을 꾸준히 소개해 왔다. 현재에는 이탈리아 칼리아리 지역에서 활동중인 Basstation 크루의 멤버로 활동중이며, 또한 파라과이의 클럽 Ankali에서 레지던트 디제이로 활동하며 ’Volumi Dinamici’ 나잇을 정기적으로 주최하는 등, 전 세계적으로 왕성한 활동을 이어오고 있다.

Born in 1987 in Sardinia, based in Berlin, Claudio PRC is an Italian deep techno specialist who takes cues from avant-garde and ambient music as well as the abyssal echoes of early hypnotic acid and dub. He’s been active as a DJ and producer since 2006 and released his records mainly on Prologue Music and Semantica Records. Co-founder of The Gods Planet / TGP project and label, member of Basstation crew in Cagliari, from 2018 he’s resident DJ in one of Prague’s most valued clubs, Ankali, where he curates the Volumi Dinamici night.

Blurry as the night and bright as the stars Mäteriet joins the fray by levitating into the system. They open their gem-covered robe and reveal all the treasure collected throughout their many journeys. The Hon (A1) sets the mood just right alluring us into an almost hypnotized mindset. Moniker (A2) extends the grip Mäteriet has taken around us further over a rumbling bass fit for the system we traverse. Rolling Thud (B1) gives off an almost machine-like air around it, hissing and blowing off excess steam while moving seamlessly between syncopated rhythms. Shine Grooves Acoustic Remix (B2) opens up to a link to the outer reaches of space for B1 and lets Mäteriets work sing, in their own words “my synthesizer and sequencer painted this picture”... and oh what a pretty picture they have painted for us.

The act was created in 2008 by Boris "Shankar" Kurtzman and Steve "Nexus" Chan. Aerodrömme began as one of the most promising names in the Progressive Techno circuit. Over time, Boris and Steve have transformed their sound from a deeper progressive influence, to the more hypnotic/deep techno sound heard in their latest releases. They have an impressive discography, brandishing releases on labels such as JOOF Aura, Digital Structures, Slideways, Rheostatus, Frakture Audio, Baroque Records, Tribal Vision, Balkan Connection, Nuuktal, Oddsine, Techgnosis, TMM Records and Twisted Frequency. Over the years, they have received support from heavyweights such as Yuli Fershtat (aka Perfect Stranger), Black Asteroid, Chris Liebing, James Harcourt, Vegim, Luis Flores, Timo Maas, Danny Howells, and Tomcraft, just to name a few. ​Check out all of their releases at Beatport.
As well as regular performances in Ontario and Quebec, their international performances have taken them to Australia, Israel, Panama, Mexico, Columbia, Spain, Georgia, and the United States. It is our pleasure to present this week's Global Vibe Radio mix, featuring Italian DJ/producer and label boss Ness.

Ness is a DJ and producer born and raised in Sardinia, acknowledged for his signature style, with a background spanning over a decade of music production, sound engineering and many years of research and fine-tuning. Through his growth as an artist, Ness has gradually developed a distinct technique with a strong focus on atmosphere combined with hypnotic rhythms. 

Having performed in some of the most relevant clubs and festivals around the globe, he steadily releases music and collaborates with several renowned techno labels within the scene. With experience as label manager through the years with partnership on Mono Records and The Gods Planet, in 2018 he established his spin-off project label called Ness Reworks. 

Ness' music and DJ sets are respected throughout the world of underground techno, widely defined as a top-tier exploration of wide range of deep hypnotic techno and ambient soundscapes.

Global Vibe Radio 218 Feat. Ness (The Gods Planet)

A decade since his first productions as part of Pendle Coven, Miles Whittaker delivers his debut album proper for Modern Love. The intervening time has seen him forge a formidable reputation alongside Sean Canty as Demdike Stare, and with Andy Stott as Millie & Andrea, beside his operations in the hardware field as Suum Cuique, solo excursions as MLZ and shadowy involvement in the HATE project - all the while building upon his in-demand skills as a DJ of twenty odd years experience, accumulating and absorbing far flung knowledge of hardcore UK jungle, Chicago house, Motor City Soul, the obscure UK techno of labels like Radioactive Lamb and Irdial, Italian concrète, Synthwave and contemporary noise. Which brings us to 'Faint Hearted', the Burnley-bred, Berlin-based maestro's debut solo opus; eight entirely analogue constructions riding the wave from wormhole hardcore clatter ('Lebensform') to body-compressing subbass undulations ('Irreligious'), trekking through frayed techno minimalism ('Status Narcissism') to mind-drift ambient ('Sense Data') and what sounds like a Demdike Stare track constructed on a worksite ('Rejoice'). But if you ask us, the best bits occur right at the end, with the ominous bass, funereal strings and obliterated noise of 'Archaic Thought Pattern 1' or the field recording clangour of 'Queuing', and certainly the majestically gratifying yet subtly dystopian 9 minute closer 'Loran Dreams'. As an individual sonic statement, it's an evocative exposition of Miles’ love of electronic music in all its shapes, harnessing his fidgety production style into one expansive, restless set of tracks.

Welcome to our first podcast, straight from Norway!
For our first round, we have invited our good friend, dj, and party organizer: Korpex.

The young berliner had his first success behind the turntables in the beginning of the new millennium. After moving to Norway in 2005, everything changed fast and Korpex had countless gigs and became resident at The Villa Oslo. 

In Oslo Korpex and his friends also started a new underground concept called: Amenta. Amenta was launched in 2011 and Korpex is one of the main guys behind the concept both as DJ and organizer. The event focuses on providing unforgettable nights on the dance floor, booking both Norwegian and international DJs. 

Korpex style varies between Detroithouse, driving Deephouse and Dubtechno.

After Monument introduced their new norwegian techno podcast, it was no question for him to make the first edition of the Monument series.

This man knows how to play, and also how to create epic underground nights, preferably starting in the night and ending in the morning.

Journey Begins

MNMT 01: Korpex

Mace., a youngster pushing himself through dark and desolate paths, is setting his first step in an auditory cemetery. After "The Metmorphosis Through Dream" out on the 21st May 2013 for Further Rec, he’s now releasing his new EP "The Wealth of The Nations" for Eclipse Music.
The title is not a coincidence: the gloomy shadow of post modern economic crisis and the breakdown of the foundations of society are set next to pitch black anxiety inducing backgrounds, who interchanges with techno reminiscence and industrial ectoplasms. It reaches the exploration of the duskiest abysses of the soul, with a deep and crushing impact.
‘The Wealth Of The Nations’ is a 5 tracks plus intro EP: the journey into the subconscious begins with the primitive sounds of "Leicester, August 5th 1862", then "Judas Anguish" displays the first attempt towards an occult sacredness, along comes "Suffer The Opposite", getting closer to cinematic-industrial landscapes, and the wanderings end in a hypnopompic "Hypnic Jerk" and lethargic "Dead Calm" state.
