Babe Roots、Deadbeat、Elementなど国内外のレフトフィールドなモダン・エレクトロニック・ダブのアーティストをリリースする、Undefined主宰のNewdubhall。第6弾は、ポーランドのデュオ、Jankaをフィーチャーする。

Jankaはダニエル・シュラインダ（Daniel Szlajnda）とピョートル カリンスキ（Piotr Kaliński）からなるユニット。ダニエルは本名名義で、実験的なアンビエント・テクノ、IDM的な作品を、さらにはDaniel Drumz名義ではビート・ミュージックを、どちらの名義もその拠点となるワルシャワのレーベル〈U Know Me Records〉などからアルバム・サイズの作品を複数リリースしている。そしてピョートルも主にHatti Vatti名義でリリースを重ね、ダブをひとつの起点としつつジャングル、アンビエント、ダウンテンポ、ジャズ、IDMなどジャンルを横断的に表現するアーティストと言えるだろう。まさにポーランドの実力派とも言えるこのふたりのユニットだ。Jankaとしては〈U Know Me Records〉を拠点に、2018年にそのお披露目となるシングル「Krzyżacy EP」を、そして2021年にはアルバム『MIDI Life Crisis』をリリースしている。アルバムでは、ジャングル～ジュークとIDMが絶妙に溶け込んだ冒険心に満ちあふれたリズム・デリバリーでオリジナリティ溢れるモダン・エレクトロニック・ダブ・サウンドを奏でている。本場UKとのパイプも太い、同地ポーランドを代表するダブ・レーベル〈Moonshine Recordings〉のコンピ『Dub meets Techno』にも楽曲を提供、またV.I.V.E.K が運営するロンドンのダブステップ名門〈System Music〉からもアルバム・サイズの作品をリリース予定など、今後、さらなるワールドワイドでの活躍が予見されるプロジェクトでもある。

とそんな彼らのNewdubhallからのリリースとなる10インチ「Piesek Dub / Nemurō Dub」。本作はリズムの先鋭的な冒険心と、そしてフィールド・レコーディングやコラージュなどの音響実験という、まさに彼らのサウンドを凝縮した1枚であり、日本へ、そして世界へとその才覚を知らしめる作品と言えるだろう「Piesek Dub」は、ジャングルの亡霊のようなダブ・ジョーンとも言える楽曲で、痙攣するジャングルをダブ・ミックスによって残像へと変化させることによって、ジューク的なグルーヴも想起させるダブ・サウンド、そして「Nemurō Dub」は、電子変調された子供たちの喧噪と相反するようにフリーキーな電子音が展開する、白昼夢へとトリップするヘヴィーなダーク・ダブ・アンビエントとなっている。実はこれまでにダニエルはアルバムに『こもれび』、ピョートルはフリージャズ・アンビエント・プロジェクト、ヒノデ・テープスと名付けるなど、日本になみなみならぬ関心を寄せていることがうかがえる。本作のリリースもJankaからNewdubhallへのデモのアプローチによって実現したものだという。それ故に本作のリリース、そして時を同じくして行われる来日公演は彼らにとって特別なものとなるのではないだろうか。世界的なベテラン・アーティストから、さらにはローカルな俊英も「サウンド」を価値基準に紹介するレーベル、Newdubhallのある種の確固たる姿勢も示す作品でもある。（河村祐介）

A. JANKA - PIESEK DUB

From the inner forests of Jeju island come the latest musical explorations by Delayed favorite, Adhémar. The multi-talented French producer once again returns to Huinali for his latest album titled, The Birth of Mist. True to form, there is a heavy emphasis on nature and grounding, each track lures the listener into a zen like state, swaying to and fro with the rhythmic percussion.

Our premiere for today, Hidden Forest Lake invites listeners on a journey of introspection and discovery, where time seems to slow and the boundaries between self and nature blur. It is a testament to the enduring power of rhythm and melody to transport us to places unseen, where the mysteries of the natural world unfold before us in all their splendor.

Hidden Forest Lake and the remainder of ‘The Birth of Mist’ will be released on Huinali Recordings, the 26th of February.

A Walking Contradiction welcomes Sciama to the fold and adds another full EP of oscillating rhythm workouts to the catalogue. AWC009 densely packs fast moving, ultra focused soundtrips. From breathtaking drone scapes to wiggly high-paced rhythm experiments, all sublimely sound designed with a focus on the low ends.

Sciama's soundscapes are accompanied by an essay of writer and researcher Asia Bazdyrieva. Pixels densely packed*** expands on the contemporary media surrounds that wrap and entrap us. A constant stream of images and sounds of atrocities and genocidal violence transforms into an anaesthetising haze, ever present and indispensable, yet easily ignored.

As head of the french independent label Blue Night Jungle, Smogo has been around for 10+ years now. DJ and producer, he aims to build bridges across several genres to constantly creates hybrid music : dark ambient, deep bass and dubstep, psytech, mental techno, all blends together. A profound love for sound-design and Sci-fi atmospheres allows him to always go deeper in his sonic researches, sculpting new ways for both dance and contemplative musical narratives.

Saturday 7 December, London-based record label @blankmindlabel joined us at Inverted Audio Record Store in Peckham for an all out DJ assault with label boss @sampurcelll and Ottomani Parker group member @hayato-takahashi aka H.CHILD.

Noémi Büchi (*1991, Zürich) is a Swiss/French composer and sound artist that creates and explores the potential of cross genre musical structures. Her music is defined by a delicate synthesis of textural rhythms and electroacoustic-orchestral abstraction. She contrasts rhythmic physicality with disruption and playfully emphasizes irregularities, creating an expansive listening experience marked by detail and elevation. Her musical work moves in the areas of electroacoustic composition, live performances, audiovisual shows, music for film, music for contemporary dance, music for installations, music for theater and for orchestral works. She holds a Master's degree in electroacoustic composition from the ZHdK (Zürich) and a Bachelor's degree in musicology and German literature/linguistic from the University of Zürich. During and after her studies, she played at various festivals and received a cultural prize from the city of Zürich. She regularly invited at renowned national and international festivals such as Ars Electronica (AUT), Mutek Festival (ESP), L.E.V. Festival (ESP), Variations Festival (FR), Linecheck Festival (IT).
