StuckintheMiddle was written and recorded in one of my darkest times in life so far. Full disclosure and CW: Self-harm; I had to muster any strength left in me to make it to the recording sessions. Leading up to the sessions I had completely isolated myself from the outside world including the band. I’m not proud of the hole I had dug myself into and the fear that I put into my loved ones hearts. If you’ve been through something like this you’ll know the “selfish guilt” spiral that comes along with this experience. Knowing how much work was put into these sessions my guilt and shame of not making it was too deep and I’m lucky to have an intense support system which of course includes my dear friends and bandmates Jordan & Zach. They were so helpful and accommodating to me and my twisted mind when we got to the studio. I had many difficult talks with Jordan on the studios roof while Zach etched away at the recordings we were making below. Truly, I’m not asking for pity when I tell this story. I’m in a much better place today and am eternally grateful that I had help and am proud to have made it here today. I am so happy I’m here. I tell this story because I wanted to paint a picture of what was going through my head while we recorded this record but more importantly this song. StuckintheMiddle is a culmination of my experience with intergenerational trauma, self-doubt, and a constant struggle against a male dominated world. I unpacked a lot in the writing of this track. It’s content is brutally honest and deeply connected to my story. Because of this - singing the track was incredibly emotional. I meant every single word I said in it and what was funny about it is, singing it is blissfully cathartic. StuckintheMiddle is extreme and feels very therapeutic every single time I sing it – Like I’m purging out my trauma over and and over and healthily getting it the fuck out of my system. When I sing this song I am screaming out my spite, my angst, my rage in hopes that I can grow self-aware enough to set myself free. Until that day comes I have this song to console me. The song is finally out today. I hope it can be helpful to someone.
