Welcome our new member Veelain! Hailing from Porto, Portugal, Veelain is a deep sample rooted young beatmaker and will bring the chops to Monster Jinx. Here's his introduction track "The Matrix".

"We easily read the title and it immediately takes us back to the Watchowski sisters' film trilogy - now a tetralogy. It is not wrong. This is one of the lost songs that was part of a 2021 project called Invisible. It was based on the same philosophical concepts as The Matrix - Plato's Allegory of the Cave and Jean Baudrillard's Simulacra and Simulations - but also, sometimes, on sonic aesthetic concepts - drumbreaks within the broken beat and jungle wave, mostly electronic chords and sometimes dystopian and/or repetitive compositions/structures, in an attempt to create sensations of trance or chaos. The truth is that the project died but, as we know, I believe, in nature nothing dies, everything is transformed. I am not sure that music is something natural, nor that we human beings are, at least above the first line of Maslow's Pyramid. Contradictorily, we are transformative beings, to that extent, I looked at the music in question and tried to give it a new life, a lonely life but one that serves as a starting point for a conceptual future. The Matrix (the movie) created a new meaning for an existing, translatable word - The Matrix. The matrix is the generating cradle of something, the matrix is the formula necessary to reproduce copies. It is therefore from the matrix that we can deconstruct the same or other matrices, and in essence this is the "function" of an artist or thinker."

Our Lord Commander, Supreme Leader and Undisputed King, the big and purple hairy dude you might know as “Jinx” usually goes to great extents to remind us of that. He needs us on our toes and therefore sets us on a strict regime of Hard work and Dedication. Recently, he came to the realization that you out there — the listener — might not be up on this little fact. Enter the PAYDAY.

From now on, ever 8th day of every month, we will release a new track by a different artist on our roster. Jinx will not allow cool stuff to pile up. Once he targets one of us, we better bring our A-game and be the face of the label for that month with a new beat, rap, whatever.  

So stay tuned. PAYDAY is approaching fast.

pretochines (roughly translatable as “blackchinese”) was born in Luanda, Angola, having spent his early childhood in the hard and heavy Cuca neighborhood. Soon enough, he moved to São Paulo, Brazil and got to witness Baile Funk and Bossa Nova first-hand, which he quotes has his earliest influences. 

Still 7 years old at the time, a tragic mugging ended his stay in that side of world and brought him to Cacém, Portugal. Music was already his biggest passion at the point, and has he found himself surrounded by yet another culture, set of friends and influences, he began producing.

Eventually, Hip-Hop — from Boom Bap to Cloud Rap to Trap — started playing a big part in his musical output, mixed in with his African and South American references and a whole lot of longing for the future of music. 

But it’s really all about the method. pretochines makes music by fixing mistakes. That’s his process. Instead of building upon, like a painter would, he builds down, like a sculptor will.

Any amalgamation of sounds and sources will do. Then, it’s time to make it right. 

That’s his Zen. His escape. He just wants to make music that makes you feel — whether  like head-nodding, soul cleansing or hyping the fuck out.

Gajo denso. Ar pesado. Revoltado com o globo. Chateado com as modas.

No entanto, é fácil encontrá-lo com um sorriso parvo na cara, feliz sem saber bem porquê, sem pesos nos ombros, só a flutuar por aí.

J-K nasceu no Congo, cresceu na Sertã, viveu em Lisboa, morou no Porto e voltou a Lisboa. Não que isso tenha influenciado a sua música. Foram outros os poderes que açucaram a sua imaginação. Quando não está irritado com tudo ou contente com nada, distorce a vida, cria novos enredos para o dia a dia e novos finais para os guiões das conversas.

Existe em paralelo. De um lado, a fantasia. Do outro, aquilo que realmente existe. O que o confunde. 

E a única forma que conhece para organizar o cérebro é a música e o único método que lhe enche as medidas é o Hip-Hop.O J-K é um gajo casado com o cansaço e que tem uma amante no devaneio.  E nem vamos falar da sua Espada Gigante.

The world is quietly hoping for this future — this dyspotian version of society we suddenly found ourselves living in — to cease and be replaced by another era. Basically, everyone is sick of the future — or, at least, what the future turned out to be. So we took it upon ourselves to find another version of the impending. 

Realistically, we couldn’t shoot presidents and end shady world orders. Therefore, we did some Monster Jinx music under this idea. Could another present be found by searching for another version of the current future? Trust us, that banner did fly. Damn, even Frank Nitt of Frank n Dank ended up joining us. 

And that’s the way ROXO 3 came about — mainstays of the label brought their game and a few new or seldom seen faces surprised us with some fire. Take a listen!

Ghost Wavvves - Phantasma

Contemplation isn’t what you think it is. 

Contemplation isn’t about sitting quietly taking it all in. 
Nor is it about reflective thought or deep meditation. 

Sure, it can take you there. But it isn’t what it is about. 

Contemplation is about color and shape — and not only to your eyes. 

To your ears, too. 

Maria’s debut EP on Monster Jinx concerns this concept. 

The producer is affected by chromesthesia, a condition where sounds trigger you to experience color. For this project, he tried to control the condition, rather than just experience it. He decided to shape it.

Learning how to paint with sound, Maria realized he had to shape himself a contemplative journey — not an explosion of color, more of an immersion of live pigmentations, washes, iridescences. 

Or whatever the music wanted to look like those late afternoons.
