Azu Tiwaline invite D.K - 05 Septembre 2021

An 100% production mix from Moscow-based artist Trizna.

We initially came across Trizna's work via East Man's Hi Tek Sound label where Trizna released a split record alongside Moscow Legend. The pair had worked together previously through Moscow Legend's label United Gang where Trizna released 'Raid' EP.

Inspired by the grey and cold settings of Moscow, Trizna would describe his sound as 'primal grime'. His sound has had many iterations over the years, 'I downloaded FL and tried to write hip-hop beats for the first time. It wasn't until later when I switched to Ableton that I tried to make a more bass sound. This resulted in the SPACESURFER project where I tried to make a sound closer to grime but more melodic and light. There was another project where I did raw techno and lo-fi house (Handra (Хандра)) and the Trizna project is a collection of all of these experiences together', Trizna explains.

Aiming for his music to be a window to another reality for the listeners, the mix he has provided for us is an all production session recorded in Ableton Live. The mix moves through his many different projects, starting with Handra then Trizna and rounding off with SPACESURFER.

For the first time in our 25-year history, we are releasing a live solo recording by Craig Richards from the club. 

“This mix was recorded on the second of December at a Continuum party. I commenced just after five and finished at nine. The heady combination of nostalgia coupled with the past, the future and more importantly my daughter dancing next to me, resulted in a mix that I felt happy with. Historically, I have been very self-critical and have chosen not to release many mixes. Across nearly four hours this one seems to encapsulate the twenty five years of playing at fabric. In 1998 I was invited by Keith Reilly to play weekly at what was an imaginary nightclub. I had no idea that experience would continue for so many years. Playing vinyl on that sound system and mixer is highly exciting and a joy in itself. I am delighted that this has been my method of sonic communication and remain deeply grateful for my ongoing residency.” - Craig Richards

I had the immense privilege of opening proceedings on Friday night in room 1 at Freerotation 2018. As is customary when I DJ at Freerotation, the set on the night fell victim to distortion so this recording is actually a reconstruction as faithful as I can be to how it went down. The wobbles may be different ones, but hopefully reflect the natural weave of my set. I did consider re-writing history and sending the ending in a different direction - at the end of two hours I could have gone on longer and the deadline forced my hand a little more than it should have done, but I decided to keep it pure, warts and all. Either way, it was a dream come true to feel bass frequencies of records I love blowing wind from the subs around my ankles, and I hope you enjoy it...
