Blankstairs began as a series of all-ages DIY parties spawning from visual artists Nathaniel Young and Warren Mark Way. The events possessed a certain renegade and unhinged energy and, at the time, fulfilled their desire to engage with Portland’s music community.

The events were hosted in art galleries and whatever various alternative spaces were at the two’s disposal at the age of 19. Local visual artists were often presented on the same plane as the musical performances driving the events. In time, the pair found themselves surrounded by friends seeking a suitable platform for their visual and musical output, and thus the label was born.

The first release and compilation in July of 2013 presented a triad of subdued, stoned-out jams and somber ambient music, alongside club constructions of various shapes and sizes. Fast forwarding to the present finds Nathaniel and Warren both based out of New York and continuing to release music that represents the artists that are immediately involved in their lives –– the label being an expression of that which surrounds them.

In celebration of six years of operations Blankstairs is excited to issue a three part compilation featuring work from artists based in both spiritual homes for the label –– Cascadia and New York City, a selection that we feel is an accurate representation from Blankstairs friends and family both near and far.

After his successful debut release on the label, Forest On Stasys is back to Danza Nativa with The Initiation EP. The tribute to tribal rhythms are once again the protagonists together with enveloping and long-lasting synthesizers, leading us to a mental state.

The final touch is given by the remix of one of the most outstanding artists involved in the deep techno scene: Claudio PRC. He gives an hypnotic and minimalist version. BNJMN's (@bnjmnnn) album Hypnagogia gets the remix treatment. The Berlin based Brit is a common name seen on Delsin since 2014. With his adventurous techno ambient sounds he released several EPs and his latest full length back in 2018 on the Amsterdam imprint. Here he invites four of his favourite producers to give their twist to his latest album.

Up first, Efdemin turns one of the title tracks into a driving and fierce techno twister where Italian producer Luigi Tozzi eases out the bounciness of Indub's original into an atmospheric dub-techno floater. On the flip rRoxymore does her magic with squeaky percussion riffs and playful melodies turning the original ambient jam into a vivid dance floor roller. Finalizing the pack is Nous'klaer mainstay Mattheis using his instinctive feeling for melodies to create a hypnotizing yet gentle version of Moth Lines.
