Monday Off is a vinyl only record label founded by Mary Yuzovskaya. Its ethos is to showcase artists that explore techno's hypnotic side; specifically where trippy and dark productions go deep yet dynamic. For the eighth release, Mary steps up to the plate, backed with a pair of excellent remixes from Semantica’s Blazej Malinowski and Parabel’s Patrick Siech.

Kicking off the release is ‘Sleeping B’, a deep hypnotic workout, with blooming synths and bass lines moving in tandem with the rolling drum patterns. Blazej Malinowski ups the pace expertly, with his remix keeping key elements of the original, applying a broad brush of subtle hyperactivity to the proceedings.

On the flip, ‘Working B’ sees Mary deliver another heads down affair, the slowly mutating synths and drums finding their own space with clever use of intricate echoes and sonic permutations throughout. Comparatively, the Patrick Siech remix is an energetic take, it’s textures constantly evolving upwards to create a mesmerising atmosphere that perfectly rounds off the release.

Aconcagua EP, the latest work by Kyntral, refers us to an expedition to the mountains and owes its conception to a trip to the beautiful Mendoza City. The release's name pays tribute to The Rooftop of South America, and presents us with highly sofisticated sonic characteristics; synths take the lead as the EP draws on and get the most surrounding and gripping towards the third track. It's also worth noticing Kyntral's modular synth, whose wide sonic palette he perfectly models as he pleases. Drums and beats, on the other hand, come from a classic 808, which adds an elegant, discrete, and futuristic vibe.

In line with Danza Nativa's latests releases, the final remix is in charge of spanish Architectural, who honors his name by delivering some meticulous sound design.

PREMIERE : Kyntral - Aconcagua (Architectural Remix) [Danza Nativa]

This week we'd like to welcome Raroh, a great Polish DJ and producer, from Warsaw.
Immersive & trippy atmospheres and smooth transitions are to be expected from this mix, which slowly builds towards intense landscapes.
He is a musician focused on trancey, ambient and intensive side of techno. He played his live shows sharing a stage with producers and DJs like Blazej Malinowski, Milena Glowacka, Birds Ov Paradise, Retina.it or Vril.

A few words he told us:
"So I have always been in touch with my music, since my childhood, so the need of making music came kind of naturally for me. I don't have any goals in it, I just make music, because it's what I love. Of course I really like playing my music in clubs, especially when I feel the energy from the dancing crowd, but I guess, the most important thing for me is to make music, to produce and to be in touch with sound. So I don't give a lot of thought in that process, it's more like a need or feeling to search and find the one, the best configuration of sound in one particular moment."

CODECAST X - Raroh - Unspoken Thoughts

Today we are reaching another milestone, our 10th podcast! This month we give you the pleasure of listening to Lucien Biscop, DJ and producer currently based near London. 

Lucien Biscop is an artist who developed strong interest in music, art and culture from an early age. Having played the violin for many years, and interacting with music through multiple mediums, it was only the beginning of a life-long journey in music. He entered the electronic music world a few years ago when he discovered the underground scene and started to regularly visit events. Those experiences narrowed down a lot his musical taste, and guided him further in the discovery and understanding of that culture, and in a way made him grow up musically.

Following his instincts and undeniable passion for music, Lucien ended up taking DJ lessons with Mantas at BAD Become a DJ, a studio based in London and run by Mantas, Egle, and Katie, who are the crew that later on created the legendary ‘’On The 5th Day’’ events at Corsica Studios in London. Lucien became a resident at OT5D and that was the beginning of his artist life. 

Having the chance to play alongside some of his heroes, the residency was a great learning experience for him:
‘’I learned a huge amount during that time, opening for many different artists really helped me understand that during a night, as a DJ, it is not just about me, and that I was part of a bigger thing, a piece of the puzzle. In a way it would humble my approach towards music selection, to respect and introduce properly the headliners, whilst still having a sound/style true to myself, and also enjoyable for the crowd. In my mind the job and responsibilities of a resident are much more difficult than headliners on the night. I have been to other events where this was amazingly done, and some, where the headliners had to save the night because the vibe set before them was not suiting.’’
With a wide taste in music, Lucien’s sound, however, can be narrowed down to the deep and driving spectrum of techno, as well as more experimental compositions. After producing for several years and learning the art and craft of music making, earlier in 2020 he released his ‘’Morning Still’’ EP featuring a remix by Stainslav Tolkachev. 

The future for Lucien is bright and it includes a lot of productions and new challenging projects like a live set or more experimental ideas brought to life. For his set at Nachtblumen, he used a combination of vinyl and digital setup, and relied on emotions and feelings to guide him through the impeccable track selection which resulted in a beautiful, grounded and deep journey! Fabrizio Lapiana continues to offer up deep musical escape from these troubling times with another expertly crafted techno EP, Cantamen, on his own Attic Music label. It features four of his own original cuts and builds on the success of his latest release, Collective Chaos, back in March. 

Sleek opener 'Demons' is a mind melting and widescreen deep techno groove. Groaning synths creep across the face of the track as all manner of earthy and organic motifs drift by, as if you're racing through an underground network of caves. It's music for the mind as well as the body, and the hugely atmospheric 'Cantamen' is just the same - fizzing synth details and alien life forms fill the airwave with tension as the smooth and supple kick drums pound away down below. 

The hypnotic masterclass continues on 'Kura' with rattling snares and harder hitting drums making you move your body before coarse claps and a majestic arpeggiated synth hook repeats up top and takes you to another level of rapture. Last of all is the fantastic ‘Back Home', which has a skeletal electro groove run through with late night sci-fi pads. Its vast sense of cosmic infinity leaves you feeling floating adrift amongst the stars. 

These are four evocative and cinematic techno tracks that take you into another dimension.
