Sounds From NoWhere welcomes aboard the Canadian duo Orphx (Sonic Groove / HANDS).

Orphx have been creating their unique fusion of rhythm and noise since the mid 90s, combining elements of techno with the experimental techniques and critical spirit of industrial music.
The project was founded in 1993 by Rich Oddie, Christina Sealey, and Aron West, who began creating improvised soundscapes and audio/visual performances inspired by early industrial music, grindcore, and power electronics. 
Following cassette releases on their own Xcreteria label, West departed to focus on absurdist noise project Tropism while Oddie and Sealey began to push Orphx in a more rhythmic direction. 
Their distinctive sound used powerful layered rhythms, modulating soundscapes, and processed vocals and samples to explore themes of psychological conflict and social control. 

Orphx have refined their sound across numerous releases and many changes in tools and techniques, moving from reel to reel tape machines and homemade instruments to software sequencing and processing, and then back again to hardware following Sealey's adoption of modular synthesizers in 2008. 
Oddie and Sealey are renowned for delivering improvised live performances that combine modular synth, drum machines, software, and live vocals. 
They have toured throughout Europe, North America, Japan, and China, appearing at international festivals such as Berlin Atonal, Katharsis, Labyrinth, Mutek Montréal, Rural, and Unsound, and regularly performing at techno temples such as Berghain / Panorama Bar, Tresor, and KHIDI. 

Their work has been featured in films and documentaries, including I Dream of Wires (2014) and Soundtrack for the Urban Decay (2015). 
In recent years, they have been working on new audio-visual performances using infrasound and multi-channel speaker systems, working in collaboration with video artist Patrick Trudeau and McMaster University's Institute for Music and the Mind.

Today marks the 10th anniversary of what will probably be my favourite ever Plex party - PCM2. 

So please sit back (or pump your fists in the air) and enjoy an hour live set from the immense Ugandan Methods AKA Regis and Ancient Methods. 

It was only the second time they performed live under this moniker with the first being in Berlin a few months previously.

This will be the beginning of a series of archival releases from the Plex vaults which will include DJ & live sets from all of our parties between 2006-2018. They are recordings straight from the desk and bar editing have had minimal treatment applied to keep them as true to the way they sounded when initially performed on the night.

Phase Fatale is the Berlin-based techno project of Hayden Payne. Since 2014 the New York native has earned a reputation as a techno innovator, both for the broad spectrum of dystopian, gritty, industrial-laden electronics included in DJ sets as well as his deep understanding of synthesis and sound design in his own productions. 

Having released his debut album on Hospital Productions (Redeemer, 2017) and 12"s on labels such as Jealous God, Ostgut Ton, and its sub-label unterton, Phase Fatale has since settled into residencies at both Berghain in Berlin as well as 中 KHIDI in Georgia's capital Tbilisi. In 2018 Payne launched his own label BITE, where he released his collaboration with Pablo Bozzi as Soft Crash. January 2020 saw the release of his second solo album Scanning Backwards on Ostgut Ton.

One of the most highly respected acts in both techno and industrial circles, Orphx have been developing their signature fusion of hypnotic rhythms and experimental noise for the past twenty four years. Using modular and analog synthesizers, software, location recordings and feedback circuits, Rich Oddie and Christina Sealey draw upon the darker, psychedelic fringes of electronic dance music and combine these elements with the experimental aesthetics and themes of early industrial music.

Orphx has gained an international following as one of the pioneering acts within the European ‘rhythmic noise’ scene and more recently came to prominence among techno fans through a series of acclaimed 12"s on Adam X’s Sonic Groove label, along with standout remixes for artists like Oscar Mulero, Perc, Drumcell, Svreca, and Conrad Schnitzler.

Oddie and Sealey have performed around the world at celebrated venues like Berghain and Tresor, and international festivals such as Atonal, Labyrinth, Movement, Mutek, and Unsound. They are renowned for delivering improvised performances that combine software with modular synthesizer and other hardware. 

Orphx have released numerous albums and singles on vinyl, CD, and cassette that have had a significant influence on many artists in the present wave of industrial techno. Their most recent album, Pitch Black Mirror, has received critical acclaim for its unique fusion of techno, industrial, EBM and post-punk elements. Building on a sprawling back catalogue that stretches across genre divisions, Orphx are both pioneers and innovators in the fusion of rhythm and noise.
