I get a lot of people asking how I stay motivated and passionate about all my projects. 

It’s honestly one of the simplest secrets I have.

If you want to stay passionate, get things done, and keep on top here’s what you need to do: 

Stay curious.

When you are curious about things, you pursue that knowledge to the point of mastery. The more curious you become, the more excited you will be.

That excitement is the key to success. All that energy you build up will charge the people around you.

There are a lot of heartbreaking things that happen in this world. I’m sure you have your own stories.

Being a victim doesn’t end with the event. It continues on for a lifetime.

In the end, you have no control over what happened to you. There’s no going back. What you do have control over is the decisions you make on the other side -- how you let these tragedies affect you.

You need to not only stay strong but also learn to forgive.

When I say this, I say it from personal experience. I have gone through abuse when I was younger, and I understand how it can disrupt you to your core.

But forgiveness isn’t for them. It’s for you. Forgiveness doesn’t mean what happened is ok. It doesn’t mean you let go of what happened and consider everything to be just fine. It doesn’t eliminate what happened.

Forgiveness is about allowing yourself to move forward as a better person. It’s about growing, rather than letting these events disrupt your life anymore. It’s about becoming stronger and learning from the situation to help others.

There is no one who knows this better than today’s guest on The School of Greatness: Elizabeth Smart.


If you haven’t heard of Elizabeth Smart, she was kidnapped by complete strangers at the age of 14 and held captive for 9 months. She endured nearly every terrible thing you can imagine.

When I was injured as a pro athlete I felt I had really lost myself. I felt like my identity was stripped away from me.

I began comparing myself to my past -- to what I could have been. I doubted my entire future.

Chances are you’ve been through something similar. Maybe it was the loss of a job. Maybe you lost someone you depended on emotionally.

I eventually came to a realization. I could continue down this self destructive path, feeling like a helpless victim in a cruel world, or I could take my destiny into my own hands.

In the end, I decided to have faith that maybe this happened for a greater cause. I felt like maybe I was meant for something else. Something more important.

On this episode of The School of Greatness, I had the chance to sit down with someone who knows a lot about having to reinvent themselves: Jay Williams.


If you aren’t familiar with Jay Williams, he’s a former NBA pro. He came from a home that was surrounded by abusive relationships. When he was drafted at a young age, he didn’t know how to handle the fame and money.

His ego got in the way, and he ended up in a motorcycle accident and put his career on hold.

After a long recovery and massive amounts of physical therapy, he wound up back on the court only to suffer from injuries again. And again.

He came to the same cross road: either stay a victim and fall into a life of extreme hardship or take it as a sign he was meant for something else.

Today, Jay Williams is a television personality, motivational speaker, and successful businessman. 

He says that his life, the parts that he values the most, started after his accident.
