Harmon - Transitions

At one of many house parties in an old flat in Antwerp a plan was hatched in all secrecy. The concept was to establish an audio-visual collective dedicated to Neo Classical Electronica, seamlessly blending captivating visuals with the electronic symphony. They crafted a whole library of songs, cementing a defining sound for the collective and resulting in a journey of 5 tracks that would make up their debut on Moodfamily. With compelling chords, robust sound design, intricate grooves and a deep understanding of their surroundings, they played their cards just right. 
A watery stream of pixels flows through lush forests, a vague appearance of glitched out landscapes somehow sound comforting. All the while, their subs scrape the paint from the ceiling. 
The journey is the destination. And VNVD (Dutch acronym for evening), understands.

Moon’s Voyager (aka Arman) is one of the new generation of artists making waves in the slow house, chill rave, downtempo scene. Surrender EP marks his first appearance on Moodfamily. As enticing and welcoming chords swirl around your hippocampus, Moon’s Voyager seductively lures you in with his velvety, soothing voice, bolstered by a slow, stumbling groove. Few elements are needed for him to get his message across. Oh that blissful sunday afternoon feeling is draped like comfy pajamas. Lean back & let go. ​​Null Acht Fünfzehn, a German expression pointing out how average or mediocre something is. Not worth mentioning let's say.. which is an exact contradiction of what they have done with their brand new EP.

Consisting of members from Brigade and Kahl & Kamaena, this Berlin threesome hooked up 2 years ago and used their time to perfect the art of creating subtle music with maximum efficiency.

Although they may present it as somewhat underwhelming and not too serious, what these three buddies have to offer is nothing less than impressive. Slowed down, ghostly yet truly effective electronic work that's ready to fog up the dance floor.

The first Moodfamily release brings co-founder and Belgian strong man AMyn to the table. 

The first track is the title track of the EP called 'Twisted River'. It’s a musical work that takes you a few years back combining a steady groove with an abstract melody that reaches beyond audible frequencies which will haunt dancefloors everywhere. It grabs and releases tension while it flows like a – you guessed it – twisted river.

Canson delivers a melancholic and deeply personal variation on the original twisted melody. While his piano hypnotizes, the main melody is cut, sliced and placed carefully, provoking subtle escapes from the main theme.  

The bassline brings more focus to this new mood which is created throughout the track by not grabbing the attention but rather fueling a sensitive groove. This brings the song into a completely new atmosphere fueled by a haunting synth which builds gently as the song evolves. 

The B-side, 'Gloam' might as well be the A-side as it requires somewhat more attention, but after listening to it for a few times it sticks to your mind. The melody is looming and it moves freely over a careless groove. It is a tad slower, but this allows a clear pronunciation of the musical phrases.

“It’s all the same”, a phrase that keeps returning in Madota’s (aka Behnam & Mehram) first appearance on Moodfamily. Little do they know that what they’re bringing to the table is actually something totally different. Not only when it comes to electronic music, but also for their own approach to creating music. 

These two Iranian-born, Canadian-grown, Berlin-residing urban shepherds ushered in a new music creation process. As they jammed for hours, “Odesen'' unfolded organically, following its destined course. The song is spontaneous, vulnerable but also has this whimsical nature to it. The incorporation of the piano, one of their favorite instruments, as a percussive ànd as a melodic instrument further accentuates their lust for colorful organic elements coupled with an itch for darker grooves.

Cologne based producer Harmon debuts on Moodfamily with elegant and carefully crafted electronica. The EP, consisting of four tracks, taps into the rich history of Germany’s minimal techno culture of the early 21st century. Sharp percussion, sparse and spacious melodies… All of this blanketed in melancholic atmospheres where he balances a minimalist aesthetic and maximalist feelings. 

This is Harmon’s first step away from the downtempo duo ‘Gazel’, a first step to absolute creative freedom, as he tiptoes on the fringes of downtempo, minimal, breakbeats and house music.

Groove wonderboy Omeria returns to Moodfamily with an amazing lofi banger. Lucky is the well timed fortune we all sometimes need to reach a certain point. This is translated wonderfully throughout the track. Lots of turns and twists with detailed variation going uphill and downhill towards purpose. In true Omeria fashion deep head bopping cuts are smoothly layered with odd vocals and wonky synth work creating a memorable journey.

We’re happy to announce Stavroz’s first EP on Moodfamily: 'Silent Spring'. Having already released on labels such as Bedrock, Wired and Délicieuse Musique, the Belgian band is ready for their highly anticipated follow up, delivering an EP ready for sunscreen and ripe for the picking. 

In the title track, frivolous bass guitars accompany a broadly shouldered melody and gently carry the track to glory while a snug piano hides in the breaks, building a beautiful contrast. 'A Great Day to Fly a Kite' brings horns straight from miles high, happily intertwining with a ruthless groove, pushing the atmosphere and delivering a quirky impact on the dance floor. 'Should've brought an Umbrella' graciously closes the EP with a touching - and at the same time organic sound.

Holy Oker is the solo project of musician Greg Rhodes, a drummer from Vancouver Canada who now calls Los Angeles home. Greg sought to strip away the instrument that had always been his identity in order to find a new, yet to be known sound. 

This EP was born out of a musician without his safety net searching for a voice without the comfort of familiarity. The result is stripped back, bare, and without anything fancy to hide behind. These simple but powerful songs expose their raw message through minimal production and earnest lyrics. Holy Oker explores themes of solitude, letting go and forgiveness while striking to find a balance and harmony between one’s old self and the always emerging new. It is the result of an artist peeling back his layers and moving beyond his comfort zone in order to break new ground.
