Our new August Aux :: 046 mix was created by Alex James of Pleasures fame. James is creative director and brand manager for LA based streetwear label Pleasures, founded in 2015. From Acid Rock to Rap, Pleasure’s cultivates a brand that draws from the culture of music and fashion. According to James, this mix is a “selection of songs that I’m currently vibing to as I work and travel during summer. Some tracks are brand new days old and some are classics.”  Pleasures founder Alex James makes clothes and accessories heavily influenced by its creators’ deep love and respect for the music they grew up listening to. And, as an extension of that, the artists, scenes and styles which that music revolved around. Pleasure’s is no stranger to homage collaborations with legendary music groups, recent collection examples include Outkast and New Order. The just released mix from August Aux and James includes tracks from Portishead, Vessel, Cold Showers,  the Cocteau Twins, Pavement, & more.

Back with his 3rd volume this week is Geminichxld, one of Atlanta’s most exciting producers. Always difficult to pin down, Geminichxld’s approach is playful and mischievous, pulling sounds from non-descript places, finding melody and texture where others can’t, and packaging them in a manner that is mind bending and unique.

An incredible amount of variety is contained here - pianos, guitars, strings, and synths are the building blocks, but are only the beginning - each piece transcends expectation and provides plenty of layers to dissect and tempos to explore (from 83 to 136bpm). Don’t sleep on this one.
